If QT was a school it would be under special measures. I can’t think of another programme the BBC has that better demonstrates the problem they have with false equivalence.
Sadly, not just her. Sunak deciding not to bother to attend Cop27 sends out a terrible signal.
JHB was saying climate change wasn't an issue when many parts of rural England were coping with rampant wildfires in the heatwave last summer, so sadly it will be difficult for her to face facts in the autumn, even if it is exceptionally mild at the moment.
She's not stupid, she probably knows the science is real, she just opts for a dangerous stance on the issue as it suits her politics.

Her knowing it's real and choosing to deny it is more dangerous.
Because then you have to look at why someone would say something that they know is untrue.

I don't think there are many people left who don't think the science is real. Not many people are that stupid. But she is stupid in the sense that she thinks her wealth will protect her and her friends from the social and environmental consequences of overheated capitalism. She's fkn idiotic in that sense.

You can have all the money in the world but if the quality of soil erodes to the point that we can't grow enough crops to feed the planet then what are you going to spend the money on?
I feel like we should be allowed to say to people like JHB: "Ok, you might be right, the planet isn't warming and so the ice caps aren't melting. Do you fancy this free house in a low-lying region? I mean, if you're right there's no danger of it ever being under water."

Unfortunately it appears the BBC are quite deliberately platforming some voices over others. We've just been warned by the UN again of an irreversible climate emergency and yet...

That's actually quite shocking. I thought the BBC were better than that, they must put that right.
While the audience member is right, it's very easy for people to dismiss 1 off events, as it's true that such events have happened in the past. For the simpletons they can point to that and try to shut down a conversation, as JH-B does here. It's much more powerful to talk about trends and the frequency of such events, all anyone need do is look at average global temperatures by year since the mid to late 70's, and they'll find it very hard to deny global warming.
4 of the top 5 hottest days on record in the UK are since July 2019.
It's so depressing. I don't think anyone has the answers, but asking businesses and consumers nicely to make better decisions isn't going to go far enough. This has to be done through legislation, taxes, law etc.

As detailed in the article, they actually did mention straight after where the clip ends. And of course she denied it.
She was pulled up by presenter Fiona Bruce, who said that “the consensus of scientists” was that “these things are happening more often”. “I don’t think that is in dispute,” Bruce added.
Hartley-Brewer came back saying: “There is actually not consensus on the idea that actually a lot of these extreme weather events are happening more often.”
And of course, it's not in dispute. They are happening more often and more extreme.
We do have the answers, they just are not answers people like. It's going to cost money and we're going to have to change the way we live.

"Change the way we live is the key"
And this is the problem, JHB clearly doesn't want to give up the lifestyle and privileges she has and openly admitted it. So she peddles this denial as a result (maybe deep down she doesn't believe what she says but is just a selfish human being and doesn't give a crap about what happens after she is dead. The same will be said for many politicians and and decision makers. So what hope do we have - absolutely none imo.
You can see why groups such Insulate Britain, Stop oil, Extinction rebellion do what they do, but they still get vilified by much of the public and media and dismissed by those responsible for making decisions.
Years ago on ‘Have I Got News For You’ she always seemed to be quite funny in a low-key way. A bit like Andrew Neil she seems now to have been radicalised. Not sure if she was always like this but don’t remember her being quite so awful.

I'm not convinced we do have the answers, at least not fully costed and considered ones that can be translated into real actions. I think we have the broad aspiration and target, and broadly know the levers that need pulling in order to achieve it, if the answers thus far have but asking governments, companies, consumers etc to make sustainable choices then I wouldn't say they've been sufficient, for a variety of reasons. We need the scientific modelling to be translated into legislation and law.

I think she's just dined out on being contrarian, and it doesn't really matter what the subject is. I dare say she knows she's spouting a load of balls most of the time but it's her USP and frankly it's probably paying the bills for her. Sadly I think people give her opinions too much credence and those giving her a platform are the ones who have a lot to answer for.

She has a degree in PPE and a postgrad in journalism, so she is very well qualified to speak with authority about complex scientific matters, whatever the career climatologists say..

If she is that qualified, how is that she cannot see - or is willing to cheerfully deny - something that is staring all of us in the face.
I doubt anyone on here is a career climatologist, just people who are able to use their own eyes and common sense.

I fully agree that this needs to be Government driven.
But the thing with looking at things like the cost for this is that the costs of not doing anything are astronomical. In the next 30 years, there was a prediction it will cost the world collectively $23 trillion. There is no escaping what happens.
As I said in a different thread, it's going to make the Ukraine war look like a fun tea party in terms of its effect on our lives.

I’ve mainly been occasionally lurking and reading when I can as I’ve been mad busy and also my MH is always much better away from this site, but I had to comment to say this is amazing and how I’ve not seen it before baffles me.

The whole video is well worth a watch, imagine hbomberguy would be right up your street.
The house rightie used to be Fartrage - with his lies that could not be disproved. Brexit is happening, like some computer virus with voters watching individual letters falling off the screen.
The attempt by Truss to enact it, rather than the UK having it enacted against them was an utter disaster - even though Fartrage claimed at the time it was the best budget since 1986.
So that's the fag ash Fartrage out.
Hartley- Brewers akes over. I doubt she really blieves in what she spouts, but has found a series of well paid jobs spouting it. No US TV evangilist went without by telling the gormless the sh ite they wanted to hear. 2 there's gold in thenm there lies"
As to the Tory MP. I have not seen or heard of her before. And last night showed why. No ability to put up even the most basic of defence other than to trot out buzzwords, and vacuous aims. She even spoke of the 40 new hospitals.
To say we deserve better is to ignore the witless thickos who elected these dangerous loons. thickos who believed known liars such as Farage, Johnson and Rees-Mogg. Never forget where the true blames rests.
