Cricket: T20 Semi Final Thread on 09:29 - Nov 10 by Guthrum | Or the umpires have the freedom to make whatever decision they think correct in real time, knowing that any errors will be cleared up if one side or the other chooses to review. |
I dont know, maybe? Just asking the question really thanks for those clarifying with the half a ball scenario though it does at least make a bit of sense. It does seem strange that we trust the goal line technology to the absolute millimetre but dont trust it in cricket when i believe its very similar tech.

The key difference though is that cricket uses a projection of where the ball is likely to have gone had it not struck the batter, football and tennis can use where the ball actually went for line decisions. It does work pretty well in cricket, albeit with some oddities at times, but it tool some adapting to at first there too.

I think that the key distinction (on goals vs. LBW at least) is that the goal is a matter of absolute fact (i.e. has all of the ball crossed the line) whereas the LBW decision is based on a projection (i.e. would the ball have gone on to hit the stumps). The goal is a very clear binary yes/no answer, whereas the LBW is 'we think it would have done, but with x.xx% margin of error. I like that cricket acknowledges that the technology is also fallible, rather than insisting that it is 100% correct 100% of the time.

There are also situations where the DRS system works perfectly: (What the image doesn't show, is that this was actually an England review after Finch had originally been given 'not out'!)

What you to remember with the DRS, is that it is designed " to remove clear and obvious errors". It is not designed to make sure every decision is 100% perfect. So they always bias it into the umpires decision. Moving back to the game, cracking powerplay for england

Agreed - they'll be dead chuffed with that. Doubly so with extending it to 75/7. No further comment, though.

I'll balance this all out by chipping in that this has been an appalling start for England, and they'll be absolutely gutted with how they've fared so far. It's India's to lose

Even you can't jinx this from here, although we'll probably lose a wicket. Really impressive to take the start from the SL and just be so relentless with the scoring. I thought Hales had a chance of a century at one point and then Butler hogged the strike.

Possibly one of the most comprehensive wins I've seen in a WC T20 - would have been over sooner if Kohli and Hardik hadn't upped the run rate in the last 5 overs...

Should be a fascinating game Sunday. Arguably the two most mercurial sides in world cricket. God knows which version of each will turn up. Eng coming good at the right time though. [Post edited 10 Nov 2022 11:02]

Has to be one of England's best T20 performances ever? Would've got good odds on a 10 wicket victory!

That was gutting! We were robbed in the earlier game against them as well. Bowled them out for 75, then the rain came.

I'm hoping one of the main channels will show it like they did for the one day final. Strangely Not one of my cricket streams has been working for this tournament England to win!

Me too. I've not seen a ball of this tournament. The only highlights I have seen have been clips on youtube where the editing has rendered it pretty unwatchable.
