A penalty for the ball hitting a hand as the guy fell...come on.

I'm genuinely torn as to whether it's handball or offside that has been needlessly complicated and then ludicrously interpreted to a worse degree...

Utterly ridiculous penalty decision.

Can we just go back to deliberate hand ball for a penalty and clear daylight for off side. The instant celebration of a goal will be gone soon the way VAR is going

Wonder what % of goals in this WC will be subject to VAR check? I don't see the need for it myself. It's a human game. Goal line tech is more than enough.

I thought all goals were technically checked by VAR ?

It's a human game, and now there's that many cameras, they can't afford to make a mistake
Offside, is annoying, but with the last few years, now vital.

Imagine being relegated by a goal that was proven to be offside - the legal ramifications would be ridiculous

The instant celebration already has gone as far as I'm concerned where VAR is in operation. I just wait till the goal's either confirmed or disallowed now, which takes a lot of the impulsive joy out of the game for me.

Players have been punished for having hands and arms for a while now, and no broadcaster or pundit has actually yet made a proper point of how mental it is.

Why is our sport so happy to destroy itself?

No team can get relegated by letting just one goal in.

Not necessarily. they could lose one game 1-0 and draw all the rest 0-0, which in the PL would give them 37 points, and as the average number of points required to stay up in the PL is around 36 - that would give a fairly reasonable chance of staying up...

Utterly ridiculous penalty decision.

Again - the problem with VAR is NOT necessarily the laws, or the interpretation, but the humans implementing it..

that penalty for Portugal is literally in the IFAB guidelines for handball as when it should not be a penalty:
