Cymru not Cwmry...to be fair it's welsh for Wales just like England is english for England...
edit: if you want to be a pedant it's literally welsh for 'the people' or 'fellow countrymen' but it's the welsh name for their country [Post edited 29 Nov 2022 18:51]

I know his dad could have played for any British team for some reason, but he played for Jamaica in the end, does that can play for anyone qualification carry on down the generations. |
Brennan qualifies via his mother's family. It was thought his dad could qualify for all four home nations as he had a British passport but was born outside the UK. However, as his mother was born in the UK that wasn't the case, which was why he ultimately didn't play for any UK side other than England B, despite interest from Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

I guess a country can call itself what it likes. But having said that, Wales has two official languages, one of which is English, and one of which is Welsh, and only about 30% of the population can speak the latter.
Presumably someone thinks it's a better representation of the country to refer to it in a language that only a minority speaks, when the entire population speaks English. I have my doubts as to whether that is the case... |  | | |

And yet Erling Haaland was born in Leeds and Raheem Sterling in Jamaica to Jamaican parents. The rules are probably a bit lax. I think I’d scrap the education rule and have it purely on place of birth, nationality or parent’s nationality. But then having looser rules probably helps smaller nations be more competitive.
Ampadu’s mother is Welsh btw and he went all through the age groups with them. It’s the ones that switch countries after the age group football that piss me off. |  |

Sorry for getting it wrong. I am all for them changing their name but it was the Welsh tradition among the players I thought was a bit off. I don't know who it was but last week one of their English born and raised players said he chose Wales because of his grandmother and really hope they stuff England. No mate, you did not chose to play for England, England decided not to chose you. Again I have no problem with that. My grandfather was from Glasgow and if I had been a player and it became obvious I was not going to be picked by England and Scotland came calling I would have jumped at the chance but would not go flaunting my Scottish identity. I never set foot in Scotland until I was 21. Other English born players like Jamal Lewis and Che Adams have that attitude. [Post edited 29 Nov 2022 19:09]

Musiala is another huge talent we missed out on .Giovanni Reyna is not so good but still a very good young talent. I remember a few years back thinking we should tie down Iwobi. I have never been a great judge of footballing talent though. [Post edited 29 Nov 2022 19:47]

A lot of that 30% are elderly or young people as teaching the language in Welsh schools has been mandatory for some time now. I think only about 5% speak it as a first language. Aaron Ramsey's first language is Welsh and Wes Burns speaks it fluently. Does anyone know if it is his first language? [Post edited 29 Nov 2022 23:07]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but after "committing" himself to Scotland, wasn't DJ found to be ineligible? I'm sure I remember seeing an interview with the then Scotland manager Craig Brown about it. |  |
