All this talk about the speed of Mbappe and Walker matching him 08:55 - Dec 8 with 2570 views | LegendofthePhoenix | it got me wondering. Kieran has said that Kayden Jackson's numbers are exceptional, anyone know what his actual numbers (speed) are and how it compares to the quickest in the Prem?

That’s why Mbappe plays for PSG and earns 100s of k per week and Jackson is a league 1 substitute every week

Precisely. I always wonder if his finishing is better on the training pitch, and it is that he loses composure under the pressure of plying in front of a big crowd. You'd like to think that composure and finishing is something that could be coached, whereas speed is much more about natural physiology.

One of Kayden's nice tricks I always enjoy is that if we are defending deep, and leave him near the halfway line, with a man marking him, if we can get the ball to him he will often play the ball forward into space and then just out sprint the defender to get there first. I haven't seen anyone yet that can match him for pace. Somehow I don't think we will see him in the Prem to test his pace there.

His end product is among the best in the squad. Whether we need a better end product from the squad as a whole is a separate point. He doesn’t have the effectiveness in front of goal as Chaplin or Burns (last season anyway) but arguably is better at creating chances and assists when he’s in a good position. As a player who is not first choice, he’s a very capable utility forward and occasional wing back to have around. And his speed and movement is a great weapon and outlet when we use him well.

"His end product is among the best in the squad" I've heard it all now. If that was the case he'd be playing most games. He's not. His crossing is at best OK and his finishing is really bad. Some guy on here (can't remember who) seems to take stick for saying Jackson isn't that good, for some reason, but he is right. The Love for Jackson on here is odd. Not to Toto levels, but still strange. Back on point, as someone said above, Mbappe seems to leave people behind when he runs so he must be very quick! [Post edited 8 Dec 2022 14:34]

I think Jackson does actually offer something though. He has had some good perfomances this season. Burton, Wednesday, Derby spring to mind. Not a world beater, but his athleticism is a nice weapon at times

His pace was particularly noticeable in the friendly against Millwall, when he came on. You really sensed their Championship-level defence was terrified of him. Sadly, we rarely play telling balls through to him to take advantage of his pace, despite the numerous runs he makes.

I appreciate his work rate and speed is of course an asset. Unfortunately, as a footballer many of the other skills required are not that great.

I think he is one of our better footballers. He tends to look up when he passes or crosses, which not all our other players do. And he has the ability to play in various positions. Of course, if you are looking for a 20 goal-a-season lone striker, he is not that.
