"Number 9" - January Reinforcements? on 07:27 - Dec 15 by GlasgowBlue | No. Because we have lost JJ so he needs replaced and our bench options are not great. Our forwards may not be free scoring but they do a specific job in the team, Jackson pace and Ladapo hold up, and if we lose either the team will not function. [Post edited 15 Dec 2022 7:29]

But with Ahadme getting up to fitness (albeit slowly), does that give us the cover we need? I sometimes worry we become fixated when our 'no 9" (whoever it might be) isn't scoring every game. It seems more of a concern to us than it does KM. I'm worried as a fan base we will never be happy who arrives in Jan. The names I've seen bandied about aren't particularly inspiring. I thought C-H was particularly underwhelming on Saturday. If I was pushed, I'd say go for another PL loan, like JJ was.

We need to get over the line this season. We don't want to finish 3rd, fail in the play offs and look back with regret. We wanted a big hitting striker in the summer and I don't see that being any different in January. Ladapo wasn't signed to be the main man.

I presume that would be a loan? EDIT - just saw he signed a new deal until 2026 back in October, so would obviously be a loan! [Post edited 15 Dec 2022 9:24]

Fair enough. We'll see. I just don't want us to become fixated on this. There will be no unifying signing. We saw that in the summer. Of course, difference of opinions is what makes this place tick, but we also do have form for the odd bit of bedwetting!

They did indeed and it was typically ridiculous and counterproductive. They then got incredibly irate of course when he celebrated scoring. Some football fans are such divs.

Yes, loan. Think big things are expected of him.

I think if Will Keane rocked up off the back of 27 goals last season and 8 so far in the Championship, anyone with any sense would see that as a huge signing!

moving away from that section really was my best move in my itfc supporting career.

He's very highly though of. Made first team appearances for ROI and at Brighton. 18 years old but 6ft and physically capable. From what I perceive a Mckenna striker to be, he fits the mould.

Big reason why it isn't going to happen, surely? Will Keane's on track for 15-20 goals in the Championship. His all round game is good and he's experienced enough to be relied upon, but young enough that you'd get good value from a 3 or 4-year contract. He's also feeding off scraps for Wigan and might score even more if you could make him a few more shooting opportunities. Even assuming Wigan want to cash in whilst they're in a relegation battle and he's their best player, why wouldn't a top-half Championship side snap him up?

I'd say he's not a very sexy signing for a top half Championship club. Certainly not one that would blow us out the water wages wise on a 3/4 year contract anyway. It's been a bit of a strange career for him really, largely dogged by injuries admittedly. From bits you hear and from what Phil has said before, it sounds like we weren't far off getting him in the summer.

In the Summer he's a striker in his late 20s who's had one prolific season in League One. Definitely in range. Now he's had a good half-season in the Championship I think it's different. As it stands there's 12 other clubs in that league whose strikers are scoring less regularly than Keane. Might not be the sexiest signing but there's a lot of teams he'd improve who have decent budgets.
