What are your plans for this year, staying local or planning to book that dream trip?

Anyone have good ideas for places to go in March and June? Ideally hot weather!

We've booked flights to Split in August. Just need to find the right Air BnB place now. Never been to Croatia but heard it's lovely.

Split is lovely, and a less touristy base than its more popular neighbour, Dubrovnik, which is nevertheless a must-see. The country itself is beautiful and the Croatian coast boasts the clearest waters anywhere in the world.

Enjoy! 👍

kids the age of yours, disney paris should be too expensive. we done it when ours were about the age of yours.

off topic, sort of, i've been saving for 6 years to take the family to florida disney, been my dream to do that since the kids were born, and probably even before that (as never went as a kid)
so been putting prices together, getting things lined up to go, dates etc. sat down with them all the other week to go through it all..... oldest doesnt really want to go as she hates rides, youngest isnt fussed about disney anymore and would rather a "normal holiday by the pool and beach" and missus only really liked the sound of going so she got a 3 week holiday....

so turns out it just 38 year old me that was excited for the disney experience lol.

now sacked that off and booked 2 holidays for lees of the price of what disney would have cost me

Yeh, I think we'll do it and think they are just about the right age for it - Mrs determined we don't miss our window with their ages. She's just been asked to be a bridesmaid in Australia or Bali next summer but we can't commit to that yet so she wants to get something booked before we can't afford it.

post covid we looked at Florida and the prices were absolutely insane, ended up looking like it'd cost all in the best part of £20k - think maybe one we ait for they are young teenagers to look at and stick to the caravan for a few more years!

Thank you. Any beaches you can recommend?

If sandy beaches is your thing, then Croatia is not really the best place. Most beaches are pebbles or people go in off the rocks which are good to sunbathe on and often have ladders to get in and out of the sea. Having said that, Croatia’s most famous sandy beach is on Brac. It is near Bol and is called Zlatni Rat, but will be heaving in summer I imagine. When we were in Milna we walked out of town along the coast path past Hotel Milna Osam and there are lots of quiet little coves and pebble beaches..if you keep going you’ll get to the most lovely secluded bay called Makarac Bay. Also near Milna is Osibova Bay which is really pretty. We also hired a little boat one day for about £70 and explored the coast round the island, easy to anchor or moor up and swim in some places unreachable on foot. Hope you enjoy it.

Ireland for me. We tend to go over every year to see my wife’s family but it’s normally a short trip, so this year we’re going to make a holiday of it. Head over by ferry, take the car and do the south and up the west coast. Don’t want to do too much driving though with little ones so will make sure the stops are a decent amount of time and not too ambitious in terms of what we fit in. Probably do a mix of hotels, camping, air bnb, staying with family.

We’re not really sun seekers anyway, but we both love travel. However with our 2 kids the ages they’re at now the prospect of going further afield this year isn’t all that appealing.

Should take in a sligo rovers game for that full West of Ireland experience

Flying to Buenos Aires tomorrow as it happens, and spending two months in South America (but not thinking about straying into Brazil at the moment). Six nights in a hotel in the city (afternoon temperatures in the 30 degrees centigrade forecast so will be adjusting my routine to include siestas) and will decide whether to head down to not so warm and a bit rainy Patagonia or across the Andes to Chile depending upon my mood.

Same as last year - Out in the garden, cooling off in the pool and local restaurants with occasional bike rides . Every day is a holiday when you’re retired and the local rosé is very quoffable

Not sure yet, our adoption plans changed when the original girl we got matched to fell through ( due to contact issues that weren’t sorted out properly) . However we got matched to a younger boy before Xmas and that is now proceeding at pace! He’ll be around 17/18 months by the time everything is completed. We’ve been invited to a friend of the wife’s villa in France in August but we are also thinking of staying in the UK probably Northumberland or Scotland in September.

Would strongly suggest going into Uruguay - especially if you want to see somewhere unspoilt by tourism. And the Carnaval (mid Feb) in Montevideo is fantastic !

Skiing in late feb
Costa Rica in April for 2 weeks - been putting off until kids were of a reasonable age to enjoy it
Probably multiple camping trips over the summer
Scotland trip in October half term

Carbon aspect isn't great, but we keep our general footprint low and Costa Rica will be a very eco trip when we arrive. Also, the experiential/education aspect can't be discounted with this. Shoot me down, but it's a much better use of the carbon than walking around Disney or sitting in a resort drinking all inclusive Budweiser

Living in Spain I no longer need to chase the sun, so in May we're going to take the ferry over to Tangiers for my birthday weekend
Then in Sep/Oct when its cooled down a bit, going to spend 3-4 weeks on a big road trip with the dog via Andorra , France, Germany, Switzerland, Liechenstein, Austria, Slovenia and Italy

DESFILE DE LLAMADAS 2023 is what you want - two days of home-spun carnaval. Just wander down to the Isla des Flores (think that's what it's called) where the procession takes place early in the day and buy a ticket to sit near the front - front row ideally, from one of the locals. Or, just watch for free standing a few feet behind the rows of seats. Two memorable nights spent watching this spectacle. Then just drive around the country admiring a cool lifestyle - the gauchos really are living the dream ........
