Phil TWTD 14:37 - Jan 20 with 4215 views | backwaywhen | Have you had any confirmation that the games at Oxford goes ahead tomorrow , curious as to the state of the pitch with this current freezing weather …..

Phil TWTD on 14:42 - Jan 20 with 3748 views | Wallingford_Boy | I would say its going to be ON. Just done a pitch inspection for a club 8 miles from the Kassam and pitch is defrosted (been in sun all day). Low temps overnight, but then a warmer/sunny day tomorrow, so would be amazed if a professional club couldn't get the game on in those conditions.

You could play on our grounds at work and we're about 6-7 miles away.

But do you only have 3 stands. Got to get the right atmosphere!
Phil TWTD on 14:55 - Jan 20 with 3591 views | PhilTWTD | Asked earlier and club had been given no indication that the game as in danger at that point, but obviously Oxford's recent history would suggest temperatures overnight could cause a problem. Think it's a case of keeping an eye out.
Phil TWTD on 14:58 - Jan 20 with 3529 views | geg1992 | Fog/Mist is now predicted which is going to keep the temperature under freezing until lunchtimeish according to the metoffice. I guess with the additional moisture this brings, there will be additional ice as a result.

When you say professional club, does that include ones that only have a 3-sided stadium?

Can the conditions be any worse than the time we played them and the teams were taken off due to the amount of standing water. Ref had to wait until the ball was able to be rolled in a straight line…. it finished 0-0 of course | | | | Login to get fewer ads

And eye out or an 'ear to the ground'? (To feel if frozen). (Sounded funnier in my head)

The ear to the ground thing might make you look like you're trying to get the game held up as some sort of protest against oil.

When they played Barnsley, the pitch inspection was at 0930hrs. So, I'm planning to leave at around 1000hrs in light of this.

Thank you. I guess the pitch will be a solid lump of sub zero ice at that time, so fear the worst. Gutting

I love a game in fog, but you never see fog impacting games these days. Happened often in my younger days, the orange ball, players shouting "leave it" while other players replied "leave what" and then immediately hit in the face with the ball. Fans engrossed watching the action at one end only to suddenly hear players at the other end cheering a goal being scored, such fun. Although maybe that was more smog than fog

Not sure that will be enough to thaw a sub zero frozen pitch, though? Fingers crossed...

Looks like they do from looking at the Oxford Forum. They seem 50/50 as to whether it will proceed. No mention of a pitch inspection yet so maybe it will be fine?!

Remember going to a league cup tie back in the early 70’s at Craven Cottage and David Best coming out and telling us fans the game was off due to the fog. Went back the next night and we drew and won the replay at PR.

This was horrendous but very funny, league one still being a novelty at that point

Nah, it'll be on, its been really mild today and all pitches locally thawed now. Bit of ground frost overnight won't stop it.

Phil TWTD on 17:30 - Jan 20 with 2136 views | franz_tyson | Bit strange asking Mr Ham for weather advice. I've read in a national newspaper from a reliable source that if he'd said it was snowing and you were standing in a snow storm, you'd still double-check.

I guEs so! They could call the protest "A word in your Shell, like!" But imagine being in the Q8 minutes before kick off and hearing that the match had been Jet tisoned. Total nonsense! Everyone would B Pd off if that was the case.

The game is at the Gas-sam Stadium, I suppose.
