Is it Morsy or Evans that McK isn’t happy with ? 08:12 - Jan 24 with 6718 views | Slimitfc91 | He obviously sees one of the current midfield 2 as an issue, hence his pursuit of Jack Taylor, my guess would be Evans, is he just too soft ?

Is it Morsy or Evans that McK isn’t happy with ? on 11:03 - Jan 24 by itfcjoe | Really lacks mobility in the tougher games, Plymouth away was painful to watch as he got dragged all over the place Games like this one tonight are perfect for him as we will dominate the ball and territory so I'd expect to see him have a very good game tonight |
Yeah, you can see why he's never cemented himself as a Championship regular. Like you say, tonight should be tailor made for him, providing Morecambe don't mark man-for-man like they did in the away fixture. Since teams have gone man-for-man on Evans he's gone missing IMO.

Is it Morsy or Evans that McK isn’t happy with ? on 09:17 - Jan 24 by JDB23 | I'm not sure I particularly like Morsy in the more advanced role. Don't get me wrong, he helps drive us forward, keeps hold of possession well and gets out of tight situations, but he then lacks a killer instinct. Too many times I see him in possession on the edge of the box and we just end up recycling the ball with the easy pass sidways/backwards that amounts to nothing. Question is would we be happy to lose the good things he does in that role for someone who can hurt teams more. Clearly we are creating chances, but still feel like we should be doing a lot better from open play given how often we have the ball in those areas. |
I think that forward-looking role where you discern Morsy's shortcomings was meant to be Camara's.

I think it was prompted by Town's ongoing pursuit of Jack Taylor.

Is it Morsy or Evans that McK isn’t happy with ? on 08:19 - Jan 24 by portmanking | I do think Evans has his limitations. He's pretty slow, which often results in his late tackles and regular bookings. His lack of physicality/dynamism does heap pressure on Morsy to dominate. Evans is great when midfields step off him and give him that extra half a yard to work with, but that's becoming a rarity. [Post edited 24 Jan 2023 8:40]

Is it Morsy or Evans that McK isn’t happy with ? on 09:44 - Jan 24 by homer_123 | Still learning his trade but offers something that neither Evans or Morsy can at the moment. I'm happy that KM rotates him to be honest, don't want to overplay him and there are times when, for example, Evans more direct longer balls are needed. |
i think Humphrys will end up as a number 10 with his passing.

I don't think that is fair when it comes to Morsy. He hasn't been as influential in recent games but on Saturday I thought he was about the only player, along with Burns, who stood up to the plate......as far as I could see! [Post edited 24 Jan 2023 11:58]

Contrast than to Fin Azaz, and Bannon who have 6 each, and a significant period of injury same as Evans, Morsy also only 3 assists. [Post edited 24 Jan 2023 10:38]

Interestingly, Scott Fraser has got five goals and four assists in a team that is currently 14th. In addition, Fraser's goal conversion rate is 25%, compared to 9% and 11% for Morsy and Evans respectively, with Evans' rate presumably being boosted by the fact that one of his goals was a penalty. Agreed. I like him a lot, but he's noticeably less influential against the better sides. He's not alone in that, but I don't see what he really adds - he just gets dragged around, as you say, passes more negatively and commits more fouls. I'd hoped when Ball was signed that he would replace Evans in those games and add a bit more steel/control, but obvs that didn't work out. Need another option.

The problem is that we have some tough games to come. I am not exactly sure where he plays, but I wonder if Luongo might replace Evans. I think he was on the bench on Saturday.

The issue is Luongo's become less of a box-to-box midfielder and more of a deep-lying enforcer in recent years. We do need someone with legs and stature - hence the pursuit of Jack Taylor.

Isn’t that the problem though ? For me a successful side can’t rely on everything coming from wide areas, you need something centrally as well.

Agreed. If you look at the World Cup, many of the successful teams played McKenna-ball, but they could also attack with a real threat through the middle.

I don't personally think Sam needs a rest .His work rate and ground covered seems just as big as ever .Personally I feel he just needs a hand in the midfield battles and unfortunately I don't think Evans can or is offering that right now . Time for Luongo to make an appearance maybe

Probably could do with a rest but EADT still had him as our highest rated player against Oxford. That's even with him allegedly pulling out of 50/50 tackles. SB

He's on 8 yellows so will have a 2 game rest soon enough - although has really slowed down on that front - just 1 in last 9 after getting 3 in 3 before that

Yep. There were a couple of occasions on Saturday when I thought the old Morsy would have taken out his man, but he didn't. Indeed, there has been the odd occasion in recent games where he has joked with the opposition after a coming together, when I rather expected him to see red mist. Maybe he has been asked by McKenna to rein it in because of his value to the team, and of course, he has the ability and strength to win a 50/50 without resorting to foul play. Not surprising the numbers are lower. Some might refuse to acknowledge it and no without being able to cut crop and paste footage, I can't provide the evidence on here. But Morsy isn't going into battles like he was earlier in the season. It was much more noticeable for me in the plymouth game. And similar on sat. Could be coaching. After all a player available is better than not, but I miss the Morsy of earlier games. No nonsense. There's the ball go for it. Definitely lead to cards but that's what happens when you have a midfield enforcer.

"It was even suggested he should be dropped" SB a short while ago. "Probably could do with a rest" Well yes. Resting would mean dropping from the starting lineup. Good to see you come around to the idea. FB [Post edited 24 Jan 2023 16:44]
