Morsy 07:50 - Jan 25 with 2294 viewstractorboy1978

Firstly, fantastic result and performance last night and I am not looking for a negative but...

That chance he missed in the second half last night - he must have been in that position a dozen or so times since McKenna came in and he's scored two of them? (Plymouth home and Fleetwood away last season). He's the heartbeat of our team but he never looks comfortable finishing those type of chances. Tommy Miller would have a field day!

Another this season I think, Barnsley maybe? It was a bad miss though and I think your general point is right. His turning back on his right foot when he's on the left of the pitch slows us down a lot too.

We need to get Evans or Humphreys onto those chances, think we would score a few more from them.

That's so weird, I used the Tommy Miller analogy last night just after that miss. You're absolutely right though, you can tell Morsy just doesn't have that attacking midfielder's instinct - and that's okay. He's never been that kind of player, so to try and make him that now would be foolhardy. I felt he impacted the game really well last night though, after 2-3 games where things seemed to pass him by (Plymouth especially).

He thumped a couple (maybe more) way over the bar early in the season and I get the impression he's been practicing placing the ball rather than thumping it, but he has now lost the pace in his shots.

Apart from that ....he was superb

Morsy has never been a prolific goal scorer which is a shame because he does get good opportunities.

Having said that the rest of his game more than compensates!

was that the one that came to him a bit on the wrong foot? Think he just got there too quickly. I thought a few of them looked a bit leggy by the second half, him, Leif (who did get booted a couple of times in the second half to be fair) and Broadhead even at the end of the first half although just coming back tbf. Little Cam looked a bit weary when he came on as well, although Hirst must have covered a few km making those runs that no one passed to him on!

Bluey has a harder shot on him! For a strong lad, Morsy’s shot is really poor. He never puts any pace on them and it’s not as if he’s placing them either.

Bolton on the opening day - looked a certain winner but hit a poor side foot straight at the GK.

Has a very odd technique for striking the ball which doesn't really generate much power, particularly on his left foot. Agree with the general point - one criticism of him is that he often likes to take several touches before releasing the ball. Evans often likes to have the ball as well so when they're both at it it slows us right down and allows the opposition to get back.

Thought it was noticeable last night we created a lot of space and subsequent chances when Clarke, Davis or Broadhead got on the ball and drove forwards as it moved the ball up the pitch quicker than Morecambe could organise themselves. Think we could do a bit more of that, especially at home, rather than having to go through the midfield pair every time.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

When Morsey was taken off we were a different team, should have gone for more goals but we went back to our normal passing game. First half was great with the team taking the game to Morecombe

If he had goals in his game, he wouldn't be playing in League One let's be honest, perhaps not even the Championship frankly

No doubts we'll see how well he does in the league above in the coming years

He's not really in the team to finish chances, we have other players where that is their main objective.

His first time pass down the line for Burns for the 3rd goal was absolutely superb.

I came away from Saturday thinking that Evans and Morsy doesn't quite work in some matches, that was definitely one of them. Where the opposition crowd them out and press effectively then one or both ends up too deep or trying to do too much. Despite that, most of our best moments in that game came from one or the other starting a move off.

Certainly having players who can be more direct is going to be important as the season goes on, the second goal last night gets better every time I see it: dominant header from Clarke, Chaplin winning the loose ball and Broadhead with the drive forward and pass and then an early short from Ladapo.

Absolutely. He's just not the man we want on the end of chances!

He's not, but if he's playing as the more advanced of the midfield two and getting in those sort of positions regularly we need him to be more clinical. You'd certainly rather have Evans (or Humphreys) on the end of those although I do understand Morsy brings more attacking thrust and drive than Evans does.

He is really not a goalscorer, he looks like he just tries to hit the target which is fair enough - but when it is just low to the centre of the goal it isn't really worth it.

Maybe we need to send him up to Blackpool every Friday so he can have one of TC's finishing sessions

think the whole team should at times!

We would have had 70 in the league with Terry's Friday sessions all season.

A little frustrating for sure, but doesn't detract one bit from his overall contribution to the team. When Ladapo left that chance for him, presumably cos Morsy shouted for it, I thought doh just let Ladders hit it (yeh I know he had less space but whatever).
