Hull City trying to sign Kyle Edwards... 11:47 - Jan 30 with 6790 viewsKieran_Knows

... from Sky Sports Transfer Centre.

Ipswich have blocked an approach from Hull City for Kyle Edwards.

The 24-year-old has impressed in League One this season, playing predominantly on the left of midfield.

Is this true or is this a fan myth that has taken off?

When we were behind in a recent game Edwards came off the bench to try and help us turn it around. If he wasn't trusted, I don't think he would come on.

Maybe McKenna sees him as more of an impact sub rather than a starter but I think this trust thing is bullsh1t to be honest.

Well that's me speculating, admittedly. But not hard to come to that conclusion when a) he's only ever really been used as a sub and b) the one time it looked like he might get a run of games with Harness being injured, McKenna decided to bring in a 33 year old that had barely kicked a ball for 3 months due to being injured back in to the side.

I like Edwards, but I think it's clear he's not going to get a run of games here and if the offer was a decent one from Hull (or anyone else for that matter) then I think it would be good for all parties to go separate ways.

Based upon what ?, he’s had minimal impact on games when coming on as a sub, apart from Cambridge at home

Pompey he made a huge impact. I thought he played well away at Morecambe after that game and was at the heart of a lot of our bright moments. Hit the post, won a penalty.

But aside from that, I think you have to give wingers like Edwards a run of games or at least substantial minutes. For him to be dragged in and out of the team. 10 minutes here 15 there. What do people expect him to do. Ultimately i trust Mckennas judgement 100%, but i feel that Edwards has something nobody else does, and keeping him involved gives him a better chance of making an impact.

Should stay just for the cute fist bump he gives the kid in the lower Britannia stand every week when he's warming up.

What was the fee offered? Surely he would command some fee being in contract. clearly wont be going in this window anyways.

Probably will start in the replay.
I think we need everyone in place if we get promotion this season.

Would like to think KM will use him against Cambridge as they must fear him after the home game, may just be in their heads if they see him playing.

I'd rather see him stay for the remainder of the season..We are going to need all hands to the pump. As much as he's failed to impress when given the perfect opportunity during our mini injury crisis. He still offers cover on both the left and right. And he provides some competition, of sorts, to keep others on their toes...
But I do think he needs to up it or he'll just get left behind, as the squad improves further..He struggled to nail down a start since he's been here. And I can't see that becoming any easier, with the arrival of Broadhead.
Can see why they want him here for now though. Especially with Burns tightening up a few times in recent games. A few Edwards cameos, might help to manage Burns minutes a bit...
I still think Edwards will be used sparingly. And needs to grab those chances by the horns, and really impress, for me...Otherwise he could be a leaver in the Summer , imo.

Interesting that they see something in him. If it were a loan move, I’d imagine edwards would be keen if guaranteed game time

Edwards is an enigma, he is massively talented but hasn't really worked out how best to be effective

That may always be the way in fairness, there's definitely something in there but how you develop that, remains the challenge

For me there's a lot of similarities between him and Zaha and he could evolve into someone who plays similarly to him, who knows

A loan if he starts regularly would do him some good, I'm not sure I would want to be parting ways with him yet though

When, as has sadly been the case in more recent times, the game seems to be dwindling away. it's always exciting to see Edwards come on, especially after he has sent the first defender into a tailspin, and deposited the second on the turf. Cries of "skin 'im" go up around me; and the request is often granted.

But then....? Excitement such as he can generate at the flick of a switch is often admired by fans, but sparingly used by a manager with a plan. We all want him to be more, but at 24, will it happen? £300K against that possibility might be a reasonable bet, even if his career goes on to throw up three or four worldies.

Harper, to a lesser degree, originally promised his own box of delights, but KcKenna is clearly a man who discards pieces that don't fit the plan.

What bothers me a bit with Edwards, is that, we've seen no real reaction from him, with the arrivals coming in this window...
He had the perfect chance coming on , on 65 minutes against Morecombe. No pressure on him, as we were 4-0 up already. Thought it would be the ideal scenario for him to get out there, against tired legs, and really tie them in knots? But was just another "meh" cameo. He didn't give me the impression that he really wants to fight for that shirt.. The game was slowing down. And he should be coming off the bench and providing a spark, imo...
Compare that to Ladapo, who has reacted really well, to having his place threatened and put in some really good performances since Hirst and Broadhead have been in the picture..
I like Edwards. But he's making it hard for people to stick up for him, imo.. A couple of step overs every other game, doesn't amount to much..
I'm torn really, as we know there is a player in him. I think, perhaps there is a psychological issue. Maybe that ridiculous red card at Cambridge just knocked him back a bit, when he looked like he was showing progress?
Strange feeling, I don';t think we'd miss him, drastically . But I wouldn't want to see him running at our full backs, if he went elsewhere..

He has so much pace, great off the bench for purely that alone, but if we're being honest he hasn't got that final bit of quality, we're all desperate for him to somehow suddenly produce it, agree totally re the Morecambe game, if he can't show it there then I'm not sure when he will..

The Wes Burns that has tightened up recently has both scored and assisted more goals for us since Christmas, than Edwards has managed in his entire Town career

He looks a different player this season.. but I don't think it's actually making him a better one overall as yet.
He's been coached you can certainly tell... but he's now not showing what made him a horrible player to play against.

He had a chance when harness got injured but didn't take it.

a niche perspective

He didn’t get a chance to be fair, but that was because McKenna decided not to start him.

I totally agree. One of the squad who can. Play higher level if he puts it all together.

Muscle tightness was the gist of my comment... It's no secret that Burns has pulled up and had treatment on the pitch a few times lately..... Edwards could be a possible option if Wes had anything more serious happen.. He's probably behind Jackson in the queue though.
My feeling is that players like Jackson,Edwards and KVY, have a squad role to play. In helping to spare our first choice players from being overworked, As we saw with the subs used against Morecombe , when the game was already won.
You possibly misunderstood my comment.
