Hmmm... not sure about this. Many revivals dont live up to expectations and I doubt a lot of the humour from the original series would fly in today's world. Maybe best left alone.

Funny how there is such inconsistencies about things like that, plenty of high profile personalities have been done for domestic abuse and still get on fine whereas there is a ‘cancellation’ of Dizzie but others just as bad don’t get cancelled, or those who can afford to send out SLAPP notices every time they are mentioned in the press

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone

Cancelled ?

The major problem is whenever the not too bright are given a new word they try to apply it to everything, as if they have some inner knowledge.

Singers, groups etc have been banned since way back No one claimed they had been cancelled. A show or appearance might be cancelled, but not a person..

Much as with spike. It was in the 'in word', or vacuous nonsense. Things had been increasing, rising etc as long as known history. But suddenly the friggen sun did not rise in the morning, it spiked.

Venues, TV, Radio and others have a commercial reason for not allowing an artist to perform. Often it suits the artist as that ban generates bigger sales elsewhere, or is merely a publicity stunt (which is not rhyming slang for those who imagine everything has changed because they have a new word for it).

Agree with that too - I was wondering how Mike Tyson is treated with such respect nowadays in most of the media when I was reading about David Goodwillie. I just wanted to give an example of where boundaries had moved, for better or for worse, rather than someone being cancelled for not having the "accepted" opinion.

Only Morrissey reviving the Smiths would be a worse idea than this...

Wow, a lot of bashing for something that hasn't aired yet. The original as many said is a classic. So long as the re-boot moves itself to the future I don't see any issue, will it beat the original probably not but I bet it will be better than most so called comedies on the box.

It hasn’t even been scripted, rehearsed, filmed or broadcast, and already it’s triggering all of the right people.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Oh I don’t know - imagine the hilarity if a transgender guest asks Basil where the toilet is. Or some Russian guests try to have dinner without Basil mentioning the war. He could even host some soggy immigrants from a nearby beach. It’s a geometric progression. 4 years for a second series and 40 for the third.

Good scriptwriting ideas, perhaps you could submit them to the team for consideration!

I do wonder how far the new Tor ... sorry I mean neutral ... Chairman of the Beeb would allow the wit to go tho. Maybe on BBC3, but have my doubts whether it'd be BBC1.

He did, with his solo career.
