Any further updates...? 11:31 - Feb 23 with 2300 views | BigCommon | On ITFC TV ? I'm assuming it was going to kick in next season? Disappointed to have missed the youth teams cup match, live, last night. Really enjoyed the previous round verses Liverpool. I would hope that any form of Town TV would offer coverage of important youth team games. And a means of keeping fans more connected via interviews etc, with the whole Town set up, from top to bottom? What are people expecting from Town TV? I'd like to think it would keep us connected to some of the less main stream stuff, without becoming a circus.. Any thoughts?

The prospect of Town TV really does nothing for me. If Glenn's iFollow commentary is anything to go by, it will just become a blue-tinted echo chamber. The Bristol Rovers game was particularly hard to stomach, as Glenn and KVY spoke of us raising the tempo and knocking on the door, when in reality we wouldn't have scored if we'd played all night.
Any further updates...? on 12:09 - Feb 23 with 2165 views | DJR | It would be nice if they covered the women's team's games, given that, although I am a season ticket holder, I live too far away to get down to Felixstowe on a Sunday. Actually, Robins TV is very professional, with two people in the studio and after match pitch-side interviews, but there is no indication at present that we are striving to be anywhere near that level, although I realise I-follow does limit what can be done. Here's a link to their whole game coverage, which starts after a couple of minutes in. https://robinstv.bcfc.co.uk/?video=cyrKLC7Jz1FwziypVDDRNVJwyizKzcxLz0jMhYhpuJXm5 Incidentally, they use BBC Bristol for the audio coverage. Maybe we would only gear up if we got promoted. [Post edited 23 Feb 2023 12:12]

By all accounts, Terry Butcher was a bit more brutal against Forest Green Rovers, but he probably won't be asked back.

Butch’s commentary for FGR game could best be described as unpolished. Which is weird considering his career in the media. The IFollow bloke Glenn has potential but sounds a bit scripted at times and the plugs for ticket sales during games are unnecessary. He needs a solid partner alongside him to build a rapport

Think Ashton was involved in setting that up so I imagine we’ll be going down the same route with studio etc.

Tbf, I would subscribe to Town TV, in the hope of seeing a bit more than first team matches and first team news. Which we can get from lots of sources atm.. I was more interested in the development side of things. Which I'd hope they would have some focus on. Aside from the usual first team stuff....And, in all honesty, personally don't take much notice of commentary. Think most of us can see what's happening without the commentary? I'm very surprised, that some of the better podcasts out there, haven't done a "focus on youth" , perhaps once a month.. We've got some cracking young players coming through, judging by the cup match reports.. I know they probably have heavy work loads as it is, but I'm sure a lot of Town fans, who don't live locally, would be quite interested in the progress of our youth players and the overall set up? The 3 young lads we signed in January for instance? I hope there's a whole lot more to Town TV, than our first team, personally.

Just mute it. Access to the stream is all I need and iFollow have made a hash of that far too often over the years. The 3pm blackout is the most ridiculous rule in football frankly given the workarounds and ease of a model that allows clubs to make money from it. I don't think Glenn is that bad, but I'd rather have a reliable service that's a fair price and easy to use over everything else.

In a way I think it's probably harder to be a colour commentator than a neutral. As a colour commentator, you need to be pro your team without being OTT, a balance IMO that our current commentary doesn't hit. It's a frequent thing you see in sports in North America where local networks cover their sports team and they can range from close to neutral on some networks all the way to the most tinted spec you ever did see. However they are still independent of the team as they are employed by the TV network. Glenn is employed by town, so it's a very awkward position to occupy I think. I think it can be more awkward still when you have a first team player sat next to you to criticise his teammates or the football on show.

Unfortunately that is the way of things with in-house commentary set-ups like [club x] TV etc. Made to appeal squarely to the sort of people who complain Brenner Woolley 'supports the opposition' so you end up with annoying OTT partisanship which is both patronising and cringeworthy. Can understand why the club don't use Radio Suffolk because of a) wanting to promote the club's own events etc. which obviously RS won't/can't do and b) don't want to have what are essentially ads for other RS programmes etc. during the broadcast but the quality of commentary between the two really isn't close at all and it'd be a shame if there wasn't a way to still get access to RS even if it was audio only.

It really isn't difficult to detect whether an IP address is a VPN. It would take a small amount of cash and 15 minutes of work so I suspect that iFollow doesn't want to go out of its way to deter people that want to pay.

And there was commentary and graphics unlike the club's output. I switched on the club's output after we had scored, and only realised we had done because of a comment on TWTD. And I had no idea who the players were. Not great value for £3.

Do you think? I'm not sure they'd worry too much all the time crowds are so good, extra money in their pocket and all that - why not turn a blind eye as much as they can get away with?

An attempt to access Robins TV in that way today didn't seem to permit the option to buy a video pass. If that's the case, it's perhaps difficult to know why it's worth the outlay, given the presumably few number of Bristol City fans who live abroad, but maybe a very top draw product brings with it many viewers for other things (including full match highlight) and so with it greater advertising revenues both for in-house and out-house products. In addition, it presumably boosts the brand which could add to attendances and shirt sales. [Post edited 23 Feb 2023 15:11]

Indeed. My point was more that it won't be on iFollow anymore and we don't know the new mindset. Better the devil you know etc. SB

He has several stock phrases that he uses an awful lot, and he often omits to say the area of the pitch where the action is taking place, which is not great on audio. However he has improved a lot over the season. Some of the co-commentators should never have been asked to do it. I rather enjoyed Butcher’s acerbic comments.

I've never heard him comment on a football game, but he's great value on Life's a Pitch with a dry sense of humour and a wealth of annecdotes.
