I thought she was really good too, hardly noticed her at all which is the sign of a good ref, is it not.
One thing I noticed was she got surrounded by players from both sides at a free kick just outside the box, but she seemed to handle it really well. Not sure if the players give extra deference, but whatever, well done. |

Less backchat and dissent imo. Sian Massey-Ellis always seemed to get less grief, so I've long thought the FA have missed a bit of a trick not bringing more female officials through into the game. I may be reading it wrong, but if nothing else the female officials I've seen have always been excellent, which surely is the main thing. |
I think the amount of backchat and dissent is a problem in the game and many male officials make a rod for their own backs by accepting it and engaging in dialogue instead of a firm and simple "cut it out!" and carrying on with the game. It is great if the female officials are not getting it generally, but the male officials have a lot they can do to stop it themselves too. |  |

It is great if the female officials are not getting it generally, but the male officials have a lot they can do to stop it themselves too. |
The players do not want to be seen in that 'Roy Keane' moment,! A group of large men, veins popping out of the heads, bearing down on a small women because they didn't get a free kick is not a look that any Club wants to be defending. |  | | |

Not sure who the thick plank in the upper tier was yesterday who thought it was appropriate to scream “ Bitch” whenever the ref got a decision wrong , ( not that she made many misjudgements). But just an example of the ignorance that still prevails by some unfortunately. |  |

Was very odd and increasingly uncomfortable to be honest, had been a loudmouth all game but nothing out of the ordinary in a football crowd context. If it were a group of young lads getting brave then it's one thing but this guy was probably in his 30s at least with his daughter who at a guess was about 8 or so. | |

Generally I thought she was very good and let the game flow as well as any ref I’ve seen at this level this season.
However she was a bit keen with the cards of which at least two were unnecessary.
Also I was a bit confused how she gave a free kick to MK after the clash of heads late on. Initially played on (correctly) then stopped play due to the head injury (correctly) but even though we had the ball gave them a free kick. | | | |

She was probably the best referee we have had for a long time.
Sadly the individual behind me thought that it was ok to call her an Fing - b1tch, slag, slut etc.
I did turn and call him out on it early in the game - he then acted all billy big b0ll0ks with smart comments about not realising they were sitting in the home fans or the thought police etc.
Interestingly though he didn't then abuse her using phrases directed to a woman. Generally the language from the individual was awful, but that wasn't the issue, it was the direct abuse because she was female that caused me to react.
Had the abuse continued, I would have asked a steward to intervene. It isn't acceptable and the only way to stop it is to call it out. [Post edited 26 Feb 2023 14:27]

It's not surprising that she was probably the best ref we've had this season. Most League One refs are guys who have hit a ceiling because they aren't good enough to progress any further. On the other hand Rececca Welch is a UEFA elite women's referee who has refereed Cup Finals, Champions League and International matches. She's also on the FIFA list of top Women's referees. She has also now refereed a god number of men's games from the National League to the Championship and is clearly on an upward trajectory. Can easily see her refereeing in the Premier League in future. |  |

Excellent referee. Didn’t stand for any nonsense, didn’t get any back.
Just used common sense.
Couldn’t care less whether she was a man or woman, just a very good performance as an official.
Unfortunately there was a guy standing in the front row telling her to get back in the kitchen and gradually going redder by the second in the final 10 minutes.
