Trump’s pants just filled a little bit… on 23:37 - Mar 30 by Oldsmoker | Trump is the victim. What has he ever done to anybody else? To persecute such a saintly man must be comparable to the suffering of Jesus. |
Roman Empire, not Jesus apparently today

Trump’s pants just filled a little bit… on 09:24 - Mar 31 by blueasfook | I am not overly familiar with the US constitution but surely if he's convicted of some crime, then that would disbar him from running for president a second time? |
Apparently not. He could campaign from jail as it stands today.

There's nothing stopping him (from a 'rule perspective') starting a Presidential Term from jail either. It's monumentally fecked up. And he still has the bigger charges to come from Merrick Garland and the State of Georgia.

Trump’s pants just filled a little bit… on 07:36 - Mar 31 by DJR | I can't stand Trump but this prosecution highlights an aspects of the American legal and judicial system that I find troubling, with people being appointed according to their political allegiance. In this case the prosecutor is a Democrat which seems to me to break the principle in this country that justice should not only be done, but be seen to be done, particularly given the following from the BBC website. "Even advocates for prosecution acknowledge that either way, this is by no means a clear-cut case. There is little precedent for such a prosecution, and past attempts to charge politicians with crossing the line between campaign finance and personal spending have ended in failure." Quite apart from this, it just seems to fit the Trump narrative that the establishment are out to get him., so I think it will only boost his chances of winning the next Presidential election. I might add that my concern about politicisation cuts both ways because we have had a Republican Supreme Court overturn Roe v Wade. |
eh ? If it is Alan Bragg you are referring to then it would be absurd for someone already in office to stand aside...... for who someone who is not a democrat. That IS political bias. The law should apply to all, and be seen to. To manipulate the prosecution by removing someone because of political affiliation would go against that. No one can stop the defence using whatever evidence is available, which nullifies a claim of bias. That it is not thought a clear cut case actually demonstrates that justice is being done. It will be for the jury to decide, AFTER hearing the evidence. However that particular case is the least of Trumps worries. Electoral and business fraud carry far heavier sanctions. Justice cannot be guided or halted just because the defendant choses to portray it as some kind of which hunt. Consider the consequences if that was ever the case. Trump is following Johnson. A blowhard who made claims of some 'explosive evidence', shortly before the investigation, that would clear him. Instead once questioned his case fell apart. His support melted away. Voters had become tired of his lies, broken promises and almost utter incompetence. Sensing the way the wind was blowing Tory MPs followed suit Trump is beginning to grasp how his balloon has been pricked.. A man, like Johnson, whose time in office was marred by sleaze and a complete failure to deliver. No wall built, no jail for Hilary, - bring down the price of drugs, revive the coal industry, stop jobs being move abroad.... all failed. Along with dozens, or more, of empty promises. It is much like the end game in chess Trump the black (hearted) king i being forced back onto the last row, before checkmate. The lies, deceit and fraud have finally caught up with him.

Would never get to Court in the UK. Danger is that he wins and it mobilises his support and corroborates his victim rhetoric. [Post edited 31 Mar 2023 7:49]

There is of course an easy way to avoid being prosecuted.

And remember, it's not a cult. Oh no... The New York Young Republican Club has put out a statement: President Trump embodies the American people — our psyche from id to super-ego — as does no other figure; his soul is totally bonded with our core values and emotions, and he is our total and indisputable champion. This tremendous connection threatens the established order.

Unfortunately millions of American think like , and won’t be persuaded otherwise. The enthusiasm of some may wane, but it will take a much more important case than this to make much difference. The Capitol invasion will hopefully be a significant game changer.

YTes these young Republicans are not part of the establishment, nor are the families or the privilege they enjoy. Why Because they say so. Much as the bloater, Farage, Rees-Mogg tried to align themselves with thickos in the UK by claiming they were not part of the establishment., The problem here will be in keeping this dull witted cretin quiet, between being charged and the trial. It is very, doubtful he will be held in custody until the trial, but his being released on bail will come with conditions. Which will no doubt be some limit on his travel and what he can say. That will prove very difficult. And as with the bloater this is the first time he is being made legally accountable, and no amount of threats, bluster or bribery can get him out of it this time. And his ragbag of the deluded, the deranged and the dimwitted will be well aware of what happened to others who tried to overthrow, the legislative - and ultimately the judiciary. Nearly a 1000 so far have been charged, with many of those sentenced being sent to prison.

Trump’s pants just filled a little bit… on 07:35 - Mar 31 by GlasgowBlue | He’ll be loving every minute of this. He’ll be front page news all the way through to the election which feeds his narcissism, his base will shrug off the allegations and protest outside the court every day saying it’s an establishment smear and conspiracy and lord knows how long it will take just to pick a neutral jury. As for those jurors? God help them. |
If anything this will enormously help Trump in his campaign and might ultimately lead to a mini civil war. I've said it all my life - USA is a basket case.

Actually it will be the opposite, as with Johnson. There's no doubt that a few over excited hillbillies will play up. But the signs are already there. Supposedly mass demonstrations in Washington have been a 'wash out'. Less than two dozen at one. And the idea that Democrats who voted for Biden in 2020 will now switch because Trump is shown to be even more crooked and lied about the election and his business affairs is absurd. His popularity continues to slip. Now 39% favourable to 58% unfavourable (27-28 Mar). As said it will be his bail conditions which will tell, given that - "When a matter has yet to be proved or disproved in a court case it is sub judice and unable to be discussed or stated as a fact in public." So while this idiotic buffoon might choose to ignore that, and run the risk of contempt of court, the media will not. And as you might sit a three year old down and explain why it is not a good idea to play with matches - so his advisors will be telling him what the implications are of being in contempt of court.
