Lots of Plymouth predicting we fluff our 00:06 - Apr 8 with 10036 viewsFromReuserWithLove

lines at Cheltenham. It's certainly a potential banana skin but these lads seem to know what they need to do. I'm just hoping we can finally be that team who has what it takes to seal promotion.

As for Plymouth, they deserve promotion for the football they've played but I've lost a lot of affection for them after that weird Norwich love-in they had after we played them last. I hope we overhaul them.

I have a feeling we’ll struggle against Cheltenham, purely because their pitch is relatively compact and I think we’ll struggle to play our wide game.

However, if we beat them, as well as Charlton and Port Vale, then it allows us to have a banana skin against the likes of Posh/Barnsley and still be in the top 2. COYB!!

Every game feels a banana skin. None more so than the Cheltenham game. Can our form continue? At what point do we get a smack in the chops? Can we carry the run on? How good are we? There’s not many weeks to find out.

Looking at how we are beating teams, we’ve not seen anything like this for a very long time. Burley’s side could do something similar. I seem to remember the season we beat the mob up the road 5-0 we put five past teams in three straight games and went from Christmas to Easter mangling teams. Of course, Robson’s teams went long periods of being pretty unplayable.

Different levels, but todays team reminds me of that momentum. The results and performances speak for themselves. As long as we don’t get ahead of ourselves, we are in with a very good chance now. The players added in January have made a huge difference but credit to them all.

As for Plymouth, that was a great win for them yesterday. Possibly pivotal. They have been phenomenal and given their ridiculous home form it’s easy to overlook their away record which is none to shabby. They’re red hot favourites now and deserve promotion.

Why do you see them as red hot favourites? Out of interest. The only thing you could possibly site is our run in, but in league 1 that doesn't really matter to us, especially at the moment we'll just beat all comers with this team.

It's going to be a hell of a battle on Monday — they're a good side with two decent, physical centre-forwards (tho I wonder if they switch that up) and know how to give the bigger clubs a going over. Win there and it's a massive hurdle cleared, for me. Drop points and it's a setback but not the end of the world — still in our hands with two nice home games coming up. Superb that we have got ourselves into this position.

Got to keep Alfie May quiet. He scores nearly half Cheltenham's goals.

Wednesday at home to Accrington so massively important we get the win. Insane, cruel almost, we win 8 on the spin and barely made a dent on the top two.

we are the top 2. we were 10 points behind plymouth and 8 points behind sheff wed who had a game in hand, on feb 14th. i would say we made a big dent on them 2 in 6 weeks

Geographically and pedantically your right, but we share a tv news station, so we sort of know each other quite well.

Also, we have significant support in east cambs/west Suffolk, closer to P’Boro, whereas not so much south of Chelmsford in Essex and Kent

And we now have a game in hand on Wednesday. So we took 24 points from 8 matches while they took 16 from 10 and Plymouth took 16 from 8.

For context on how much of a dent we have made, if each team continues the same form over our last matches, we would end on:

Ipswich 102 pts
Plymouth 98 pts
Barnsley 90 pts
Wednesday 85 pts

We would have a cushion of 12 points for automatic promotion!

To get promoted automatically we just need to match Wendies with 1 loss in the pocket and match Barnsley with 2 losses in the pocket.

Based on current form I’m pretty confident we can win 6 lose 2 or win 5 draw 3…

The bookies have us at 85% to be promoted because it is likely.

Overtaking Plymouth is a slightly taller order, gonna need to win 7 probably.

Either way a draw v Cheltenham wouldn’t be a catastrophe or a fumble as Plymouth fans would have us believe. They’re the ones with the lead to lose.

agree with most of this, but we only have 7 games remaining, so win 5 draw 3 will be tricky!

Red hot was over egging it. Let’s say favourites. They are at the top of the heap, two point advantage. Their home form is untouchable and they’ve a game in hand on SW. they are resilient and the games are running out.

I don’t disagree with your post. Our form is extraordinary. It’s up to us.

Ah I posted this yesterday morning, very slow internet connection!

But yeah, I guess it would be 5/2 or 4/3 now would probably do it.

Cheltenham is the easiest of the next 3 away games we have though. Then Fleetwood is either going to be superfluous if we are already up or a pressure cooker game on the final day. On the assumption we will need to win 5 of the remaining 7, you'd want to be chalking Cheltenham off as a win.

Of course I would. Sooner we get those 15 points in the bag the better, obvs.
But the fact is it doesn’t matter where we get them from and there is a very good chance we will, in the end.

I think if we can beat Cheltenham on Monday, it increases our winning run with 2 winnable home matches to follow. Assuming Wendies don’t take a maximum 9 points from their next 3 we’d be looking close to home and hosed by the Peterborough game on 22nd. Which is, I think, our toughest remaining fixture.

So yeah, Cheltenham is a “massive game” amongst massive games.

Cheltenham will be very tough but we are a good side, playing well.

If we get 95 points, then I believe this will be enough for top 2. The most SW can get is 99 and Barnsley 96.

So, 14 points from 7 games. We do not need to win on Monday.

If we do win and then max out the two home games that follow, we will be on 90 points, with four to play.

All to play for.

Worth noting, our Club record for points in a season is 87pts..
3 more wins will smash that.
It's a side issue, in the grand scheme of things. And not something KM or the lads will be thinking about..
But just illustrates the kind of season we are witnessing.
And shows what can happen, when 3 or 4 decent sides keep pushing each other.. Not sure what Plymouth and Barnsley records are, SW record is 93pts.... I don't think 94pts will be enough for autos....
When the dust settles, it would have been a truly historic season...

You've got to hand it to Plymouth though, they won't go away. Every time they have a bad result they seem to bounce straight back and the number of times they go behind and get my hopes up they're going to drop points but come back to win is amazing.

Plymouth's wobble was last month when we cut their 10 point lead down to 2. Since then they have been fairly consistent.

That said, I think we can get 2 more points than them between now and the end of season.

Oh, they fully deserve to get promoted this season. They’ve been exceptional it’s true. But I’ve gone right off their fan base , who this season come across to me as a totally arrogant bunch of prats, and for some reason appear to have some kind of affinity and a love in with narwich. God knows why.

I'm sure they were saying the same about our trips to Derby and Bolton (and maybe about our home games with Shrewsbury and Wycombe).

I’m genuinely expecting us to win every game now. Of course, we won’t - but we seem to have developed a completely different mentality over the last couple of months. We really do seem like one top teams in this wretched league and not one of those trying to muscle our way in, but ultimately failing.

Plymouth deserve to go up - consistently good for a couple of seasons (despite fluffing their lines in the finishing straight last year.

Stop Alfie May and that’s their threat gone.

Play as we have and we should get another 3pts

The pitch v sw was boggy 1 end - so if more rain comes that could make it trickier!

Their fixture - Lincoln at home - isn't exactly a home banker. They've been specialists at frustrating top 6 teams home and away!
