Potential Signings Next Season 17:36 - Apr 26 with 6044 viewskizaitfc

Do we go back to look at some of the players we were linked with this season:

Taylor
Clarke Harris
Whittaker
Scarlett (not sure we were linked but I remember KM praising him very highly pre and post Portsmouth at Home)

Or do we set our sights on a new pool of players, maybe prem reserve/youth or even looking outside the UK?

Poll: Mick in or out? (not a dig at Mick just want to see the overall opinion on here)

Given the profile of player we've signed in L1 I think we might see some serious commitment, not loads of signings but a 1 or 2 that make other sides take notice.

If we play the way have done for the last 13 weeks we would be right amongst it in pushing for play offs I think.

I reckon someone us older types haven't heard off from a PL academy, a Cameron Archer type signing (proilfe wise not necessarily a striker)

Sunderland are 6th.

I think we are a far better team than Sunderland were and they haven't strengthened that much I don't think (and lost Broadhead).

Keep the key players, spend some money and we have a real chance to push for playoffs.

Loans.

If you want to compete in the championship you need some quality loans from the prem. I expect to see 2/3 of them. Probably a winger/Centre back and a Midfielder

The only player Luton have on loan is their goalkeeper. (I think)

I think that's only true because most Championship clubs have no money. Look at what happened to Forest - loaned an entire team and then had to buy one when they got promoted.

Plymouth will loan a lot of players, if we get promoted I think we will be buying if at all possible.

Doesn't mean we won't also get 1 or 2 loans but I don't think we will go crazy on the loans.

I think being in the championship seriously opens this up. Clubs no we'll be looking after players and it is a trustworthy coach. We could be quite surprised who turns up on loan.

Agreed. And if you go back to the early Gamechanger interviews when they first took over, they hinted pretty heavily that once we got out of League One, then the serious work begins in terms of spending on the team. Their long-term plan needs Premier League football.

Championship is a bit of a mess, when you look what has happened to clubs like Reading. A well-run team with momentum and quality could do well, and I think we will.

Agree. Ashton said recently that we don't want loanees, as that way we are improving players for future rivals.

I think that changes when you get into top end of Championship though which we are capable of.

Burnley have Harwood-Bellis (Man City), Maatsen (Chelsea) and Tella (Southampton)

Sheff U have Doyle and McAtee from Man City

Boro have Steffen (Man City) and Archer and Ramsey from Villa

When you look at someone like Scott Twine, who Burnley spent £4m on, he's just not as good as some of those loan players that drop down - whilst I am not a huge fan of loan system, I can't remember any Championship club who has been promoted without a couple of top loanees in their side

Some Colchester fans are worried he might go to (the hated) Wycombe because he keeps praising Matt Bloomfield and Richard Thomas ( = first-team coach).

Just can't see how Wycombe could afford him, as he'll be worth a decent sized fee and they don't spend money

Agreed. I think we'll make a few good permanent signings too but if we go up I would be surprised if we don't supplement the squad with some high quality loan signings. Tella was different gravy in the two games against us I thought, and if Saints go down and with Burnley going up I can see him staying where he is. If we can bring in some quality Prem loans that help us to go up, there's a chance we might be able to keep them here. Not really all that different from the situation with Hirst and TJJ at this level, they are better players than we might have been able to buy at the time but if they help us up we're well placed to potentially keep them.

The cub assembled a team that would not only gain promotion from league one but also be competitive in the Championship. This means there will be limited movement within the squad although if the aspiration is to push for the play offs next season then they may need to add some weight. I am pretty sure there are a number of players who would happily sign for Ipswich right now.

Amad at Sunderland from Man Utd as well if we want to take a comparison from a newly-promoted club that have been/are in the sort of position in the table we'll want to push for.

Even likes of Luton and Coventry who have a reputation for canny recruitment and good coaching to get where they are have a few prem loans between them to give them a boost.

Obviously we're very detailed in looking at a player's profile before signing them and won't just be getting someone in solely on prior connections but McKenna and Pert's knowledge of youth football at that level gives confidence we might be able to get the cream of the crop from those players ready to drop down for a season of Champ football.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

yes, my mistake, - Luton seem to have three loan players, including the wonderfully named Marvelous Nakamba.

I do think we should be a bit careful about totally revolutionising the team. Right now we're as together as I've ever seen an Ipswich team and almost everyone in the squad has earned a real crack at the Championship.

I'd like to see a sprinkling of quality added, rather than a huge turnover. I'm pretty confident our current squad competes well in the Championship and we can evolve over the medium term as players move to the fringes (like Keogh, KVY and Aluko have this season).

Surely the first phone call should be to Licester and his agent and open negociations for George Hirst on a permanent deal.
