"If the players can't be bothered to turn up, why should we?"

Part of me feels sorry for them. Part of me finds this all hilarious.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I don't generally go on other forums (I spend more than enough of my time on here) but I couldn't resist a quick peek on owlstalk last night. Amongst the usual angst and post mortem, someone started a thread calling for Gary Megson to replace Moore before the second leg.

I couldn't stop laughing.

Someone on here earlier pointed out their strong links to him, much as ours to e.g. Jim. He played more games for them than anyone else and helped them get back into the top division. He then had a reasonably successful managerial spell, cut short for some inexplicable reason. The wiki entry for his manager spell paints a picture of a basket club:

“On 4 February 2011, Megson was appointed manager of his former club, Sheffield Wednesday, replacing Alan Irvine who had been relieved of his post the previous day. On 29 February 2012, with the club third in League One, he was sacked. At the time of his sacking he had the third best win percentage of any manager in Sheffield Wednesday's history. His last result before being sacked was a 1—0 victory over Sheffield United in the Steel City derby.[29]”

So understandable, although also baffling in their lack of ambition.

Ah, thank you, I wasn't aware that he had managed them previously . The suggestion does now make some sense I suppose, a bit like those who were suggesting Burley to replace Lambert in our darkest hours.

Over 10 years later, having done nothing of note since then. Baffling, as you say.

‘eh?

As much as I enjoyed their fans imploding and dont want Wednesday to go up, after the 4th went in, giving them no hope of turning it around, i did feel a bit bad for them. They're going to turn up on Thursday with no nerves or belief that they can get to Wembley and if anything will just be hoping they can make it look a bit better on aggregate.

They’ve reached a point on Owlstalk where a couple of people are saying they want Lambert and others are saying Hurst are in their desired shortlist for a new manager…

I think I would still go. A miracle is needed but they do sometimes happen in football. Imagine if you didn't go and then Sheff Weds got an early 2-0 lead...

I would go,
Through thick and thin,
Look at us
Play off season was the only joy in last 18 years,
You have to go it's the club you support,
Players managers come and go,

Bottled it didn’t they! They couldn’t cope with the “ tippy tappy football which won’t get you out of this league”, apparently!

This is a comment from early February.

"McKenna needs to re think his strategy : tippy tappy possession football is killing our chances . We have the players in the squad . The tactics are WRONG for League One. We are not Barca and thus is not PL or Champions League."

Is it a Sheffield Wednesday fan? No. Recognise this, Arnie?

You don't half change your mind a lot. Why hammer them when you've said exactly the same thing.

Arnie thought we’d lose every game we played all season, every pre game.
No matter who we played, Arnie felt it unlikely we’d win……

I struggle to see how they think anyone could do any better. They got 96 points, which usually would not only win you promotion outright, but also comfortably. If they do the same next season, they'll almost certainly go up. Essentially they are a very successful team at this level. Get someone new in, they are starting again.

If ever there was a case for National Service to drum some discipline and self-respect into our youngsters, that’s it right there. What a plumb

I think the being more 'direct' was more to do with the speed that we looked to transition/progress the ball forward rather than just long balls.

The 5 game rolling average of long balls shows that we did increase the number but much earlier in the season than our great run, there was a small dip before the final run in. I think it was as much people running directly and shorter forward passes rather than long balls per se.

5 game rolling average of successful long passes: 28.4, 30.0, 28.6, 28.8, 26.2, 26.0, 24.4, 25.0, 22.8, 25.2, 24.6, 23.2, 20.8, 20.4, 20.8, 20.0, 20.6, 25.0, 27.6, 29.2, 32.0, 33.0, 31.4, 31.8, 31.8, 31.8, 33.8, 36.2, 33.8, 28.6, 27.0, 26.4, 25.6, 27.6, 31.2, 33.2, 33.8, 33.0, 32.2, 31.2, 29.6, 31.4

That thread seems to have been deleted for some reason 😂

Too, too funny - hope those of their fans who did return their tickets are still crying into their bedsheets - and will be doing so again on BH Monday, 29/05..
