Strong rumour Sakyi signing when window opens on 14:32 - May 24 by itfcjoe | I wonder if he'll even sign the deal as will know he's unlikely to get much game time here - the contract offer may just be a genuine gesture but not fit in with his plans |
Didn't someone on here say that they knew Aluko had moved out of his rental in Ipswich? I don't know whether they were trustworthy or not... but I did have the same thought that it could be a 'take it or leave it' emergency back-up offer.

Strong rumour Sakyi signing when window opens on 15:48 - May 24 by PhilTWTD | Perhaps, although if he was dead set against it then the matter would probably have been resolved already and his departure would have been announced. Might depend on what other clubs are offering and if there's a greater chance of playing regularly, I suppose. |
I'm massively surprised only really because of the 25 man squad restrictions. To use a place on a player that started 4 games at the level below is a tally quite shocking. If much looser restrictions it would make perfect sense. He's still a good player and clearly excellent to have in the building. Just shocked because of the squad limit. Would make sense if can play cups but not in league squad but clearly if he wants to play he won't sign that. I imagine perhaps a cheap deal for us he might not take and we will look to sell some players fund additions (ffp). So perhaps with that factored in and him having no re-sale value it makes sense to keep him as a squad player.... Definitely curious one.

Yes, I think that is the question. I don't think anyone has any quibbles with SA staying per se, just the squad limit. There are a few obvious departees from what we have presently and the squad size will be smaller, I think the club was open that it was larger than was ideal towards the end of the season, but still less wriggle room than might have been expected.

Strong rumour Sakyi signing when window opens on 13:39 - May 24 by PhilTWTD | I doubt he'd be interested in that, at the Christchurch Park thing he said he was keen to keep playing for a year at least even if he is now looking at his future beyond that. |
Having said that, if anyone was going to be offered a role like Paul McShane's at Man U to work with the development squad (or Alan Lee's a decade ago here), Sone would be an ideal player. But I would guess that wouldn't be what he wants at this point.

That had been my thought. Potential to still play week in week out even if it's at a less competitive level - come in for the cup games with the First Team. Contribute more generally around the club. In the corporate world it might be considered to be a bit of a porfolio career.

That was the role I thought Keogh would take. From what I’d heard Ashton really liked the ‘coaching’ element he bought to the club last summer (Morsys comment of De Zerbi backs that up). Think he was viewed as someone who would form part of the coaching set up, if/when McKenna left. So that’s a surprise to me to see he’s gone, but as you and others have said, maybe he fancies one last crack at senior football for a season.

I had heard the club was putting feelers out for him to find a new club, so think he plans to play on for a bit yet. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Could the contract offered be a non registered role contract... or would the retained announcement announce that specifically.

Suggest to me we aren't going 8-9 signings this window. More like 4-5 incoming (and two of those likely/possibly TJJ and Hirst). More evolution and then revisit in Jan. I suppose you have to look at January as part of our recruitment for next season. Broadhead, Clarke and Luongo were quality additions. We'll just add some real quality to to it and then evaluate in Jan. Or do you still expect we'll sign quite a few more?

Think you may be right, it will certainly be evolution not revolution; the squad has been built with an eye on the Championship. We've already added three players who are going to be big players next season and strengthened the pre-Christmas squad.

Strong rumour Sakyi signing when window opens on 13:15 - May 24 by clive_baker | Guess it will depend on what Aluko wants to do too as to whether he accepts the offer. He's not stupid, if he's here to offer a bit of maturity and experience in what is a young group, play in the cups etc and provide some depth then that's fine, but if he wants to be starting a decent chunk of games in what might be his final season in the game then he'll know it's highly unlikely to happen with us. |
I doubt Aluko would get materially more money elsewhere, or get a deal at a better club (he signed for us in League One when he was younger than he is now, after all). But if he has half an eye on coaching or management in the future, surely it's obvious that being around McK for longer is just going to be so positive for him in that next career. I reckon McK felt he had the choice of one of Aluko or Keogh to retain, and he's gone for Aluko's quiet intelligence. Tough call as they both have lots of experience. I don't think having Aluko around can possibly be a bad thing, and I reckon it's a win-win.

Aluko is exactly the type of player that could get a lucrative contract playing in America or elsewhere abroad for a couple of seasons. I’d be amazed personally if he doesn’t have something better on the table.

A couple of years in the states would be a really tempted life experience plus a decent standard of football where he would play more. It would surely be a better option. Having said that he has found a home with us as well and clearly a lot of mutual respect with McKenna. We fans have taken to him as well.

Good player, good man. Agree on that. But last season tells us he's not ahead of what we have and therefore with 25 man squad it is surprising. That is the potential down side (space taken) but I don't think anyone is sad to see him stay. Hasn't really put a foot wrong since he's been here.
