Johnson's gone (n/t) on 17:29 - Jun 10 by NthQldITFC | A committee with a majority of Tory MPs. 'Accidentally' lying through your teeth isn't really an excuse that anyone other than a four year old can use, and then we just tolerate them rather than believe them. We certainly shouldn't let them run the country or anything like that. It's a fine day for democracy; we have to try to get some accountability back into politics and business or we're f**ked. This could be seen as a start. |
Ha, ha!!no one ever mentioned accidentally lying. Keep to the facts. If a minister is now briefed incorrectly and misleads parliament then they can be found guilty. This is completely new. This committee changed the rules. If misleading was not deliberate then there was never a problem. That’s now changed. So the fresh start will be that ministers will say the bare minimum in the house. Not good for democracy.

Yes, we all did. That's why 85% openly stated the bloater is a liar That's why he will not see a Tory dominated Parliament vote on whether any ban should be upheld. A ban ADVISED by a committee with a Tory majority. And why he does not trust his constituency to support him. He was, and still is, in Africa when he resigned. Then if there is a by-election why not stand and let the voters judge him ? I suspect he already knows what they think of him. Never in the constituency and rarely in Parliament either. [/]"The COVID enquiry is coming for ya, fatboy. Time to give ya mate Putin a call, as it ain't gonna be a safe place when voters find out how many people died due to your failure to act correctly" And some may be aware that another of the Boris Bigots has resigned today. Nigel Evans. More to come before any GE, I would suggest. This shows what voters think of the lying slug https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/bbc-audience-erupts-in-applause-after-bei

This from the Guardian tells a different story. [David Davis] the Tory MP told GB News: “The truth of the matter is, ask around parliament, ask most of the MPs, most people are fairly sure he misled the house. “And he did so many times and he did so knowing that these parties had occurred and he had been at some of them. “It is hard to be at a party and not notice it is a party.” He said the former prime minister had been given “hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money” to pay for “the most expensive lawyers in the land” to advise him during the inquiry, adding: “So I hardly think that’s unfair treatment.” The former work and pensions secretary Esther McVey separately told the news channel: “Conservatives all believe in personal responsibility — there is an element that Boris has to have personal responsibility for what went on.”

Nothing to say they have to be. The rules allow for up to 3 months before a writ (starting pistol) has to be issued. It would make more sense to get all three done before Parliament breaks up at the end of July. Too many voters and MPs on holiday over the 6 week summer period. Leaving it until September would mean a later date to avoid clashing with the conference season. The Tories may be waiting to see if any more rats jump the sinking (stinking) ship. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Johnson's gone (n/t) on 23:54 - Jun 9 by HARRY10 | I doubt. Johnson and his latter day Brownshorts will be rooted out and removed. Sunak has already begun inching the party back to what we once knew it to be, not the rage bag of right wing loons. And Osborne's comments today are just one of a number of opening shots. Toad, Ratty, Mole and Badger will want to see the weasels, stoats and other assorted vermin destroy themselves before they make a decisive move to take back Toad Hall (Tory Party). That will mean seeing this lot sunk without trace at the next election. Only a thorough humiliation in the election will give them the authority to lay claim to the party, and spell out the need for it to head back to the middle ground. Johnson might kid himself it was 'me that won it', but internal Tory polling showed Johnson was third behind Brexit and Corbyn as the reason for the 2019 victory. To 'get back' Johnson needs a constituency to fight. And a safe one at that. There's not a chance of a constituency going against head office and selecting him. And fittingly, for a man who dreamed of leaving a lasting legacy in the form of a bridge, and tunnel or some edifice named after him, his legacy to the country will be of the man who caused so many deaths with his incompetent handling of covid, who caused so much harm to the UK economy by pushing for Brexit, and any number of kids of which two are yet to grow up hating him, as the others do. A true legacy of a venal and contemptuous man, who lied and lied until the lying could no longer hide the true nature of the man. |
Rishi is not much left of Boris and is trying desperately to appease the ERG and those who the party gained from UKIP/BNP/etc. He might not have quite the ideology of Johnson or Truss but he is far from free from the influence of those who stand for everything they believe in.

The opposite is true, actually. Sunak is trying to drag the Tories back towards the centre ground. A bit too late now. The damage has been done. The ERG and other assorted bigots are now a spent force. Their whole argument was based on how wonderful brexit would be. That lie has been exposed. That's why the percentage of voters who now regret their brexit vote continues to increase. As to the racists and the ragbag of rightwing racists, they have no where else to go. Farage's humiliation at the local elections has told him, that along with ERG, his lies are now seen as empty. Neither Johnson, nor Truss have any ideology. They are no more than desperate wannabes, willing to peddle anything if it gets them to the top. Truss, a remainer, was idiot enough to peddle Brexit economics. And look what happened. Anyone with half a brain would have known what would happen. As the less loony wing of the Tory party slowly assets itself, Sunak has little option other than to do as he is told. He will be gone after the next GE. Unfortunately the mess he caused as chancellor will not, Nor will the constant exposés from the Covid enquiry be gone soon either. That is not about a fat boy holding illicit parties. This will thoroughly investigate the fraud and corruption involved in the provision of PPE, and will similarly investigate the almost total incompetence shown by number 10. It promises to be quite an illuminating enquiry. Targetted to finish the summer of 20216. Will most likely finish the political life (and remove the freedom) of many an MP. no wonder the 'not so loony' side of the Tory Party have been keeping their head down, until now.

Sunak was Boris' right hand man throughout it all. How easily does he fool people by switching sides and suddenly talking about integrity once it became electorally advantageous to do so?

He is left of Johnson in his leanings but certainly not significantly so. His leadership has not been as corrupt as Johnson's but it is far from without stain. He is also clearly beholden to the ERG in his attempts to hold the party together.

Only those who want to be fooled. The current Prime Miniature is (in cricketing terms) the overnight watchman. An absurd little pipsqueak with no authority, ever eager to do what he is told so as to keep the job. The current lot will be swept away after the next GE. So as to allow the 'sensible' wing of the party to lay the blame on this load of weasels, stoats, ferrets and other sundry vermin. It will take a fair bit to rebuilt Toad hall (Tory Party)

The dumping of the loony 'sunset clause' over EU regulation. The backing own on NI, and the conciliatory attitude towards the EU More work permits being issued Change of policy over migration - no more division on those entering by 'illegal 'methods That those have come about is no more than Sunak trying to hold onto his job. And that's the point Harry. Nothing Sunak has done or will do is at all related to dragging the Tory party back to the centre ground but everything to do with him trying to hold on to his job. And for why? Because he is as self-serving as any of the other rabble we have seen.

You seem to have contradicted yourself there. I have clearly stated why he is doing this. A desperate man, way out of his depth, who will do what it takes. However, you appear to accept he is dragging the Tory Party back towards, not to, but towards the centre ground. His motivation was not in question. Nor was it the point. That was that the 'moderates' will now become more vocal and seek to reclaim the party. They may well justifiably be able to point towards the headbangers for the mess caused. But by not lifting a finger in dissent, many happy to ride the wave the brexit lies delivered, they can be considered just as guilty. There is going to be an awful lot of bloodletting before any re-building can begin. Being pro EU I think the word schadenfreude is most apt for what is to come

No more division on illegal immigrants? We are spending money on barges to imprison them in, ensuring that there are no legal routes at all and then saying that anyone not by legal routes is automatically removed. Our Home Secretary is going to cheer when people go to Rwanda.

That's not correct. In fact, via another step back there is no division now between those who arrive legally and those who arrive illegally. "Rishi Sunak has quietly dropped a key plank of last year’s asylum law that introduced a two-tier refugee system and made lives tougher for tens of thousands of people who arrived in the UK via small boats." https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/jun/08/key-plank-of-new-uk-asylum-law-d I would suggest you check first. I fully understand where you are coming from, but stating something that is not correct merely invalidates your argument. However, worthy. The about-face here, is yet another example of right wing rhetoric meeting reality.

Simply inaccurate. Braverman is still pursuing Rwanda. Barges are being purchased. The backlog remains the biggest issue and like the rest of the public sector, is painfully neglected. They have not changed the premise that people arriving illegally will not be permitted to stay, despite the absence of legal routes. https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/pm-statement-on-illegal-migration-deliver "So, we’ve introduced unprecedented legislation to make clear that if you come here illegally you will be detained and removed in weeks — either to your own country or to a safe third country like Rwanda" The culture wars continue.

You’re making a mistake by crediting a Johnson with having any ideology. He’s not right wing. He’s not left wing. He’s a populist chancer who bends with the wind. And only when it suits Boris Johnson. He was never a Brexiteer, and used the referendum to achieve his long term ambition of becoming Prime Minister. If remain had been his route to power then he’d have campaigned to remain. I wish Sunak had the balls to go to war with Johnson and the ERG in the same way Starmer has with Corbyn and the crank left.
