He was never a Brexiteer, and used the referendum to achieve his long term ambition of becoming Prime Minister. If remain had been his route to power then he’d have campaigned to remain.

As Glasgow says, he’s a populist chancer. He’s all self image (the hair ruffling before waffling to the nation behind his lectern and big badge) and wind. It was easy to take the route he did because like the rest he had no idea what Brexit actually meant. In other words I don't think he was a leaver or remainer. It was all about him.
