Anyone worried about the lack of signings? Many championship clubs making moves for players where we seem to be quiet compared to others.

Trust in Ashton and McKenna to get it right but we do seem to be slow considering pre season is now underway and Ashton was very keen back end of last season to do early business.

I'm sure there is real frustration growing in the club, they'd have wanted a couple more in by now - hopefully we do have a couple more before we go to Austria as that is a big week for the season

Not even remotely.

We'll be in for a different pool of players that won't become available until later in the window so need to be patient. Plus, our current squad is already pretty tidy for the championship anyway so we'll be grand either way.

Nope. We've been back at training for a couple of days. Plenty of time left.

Presumably, the quality of player we're after takes time. I'd rather wait for a couple of ballers than already have some mediocre players through the door.

Not worried but we do need to get some players for a large chunk of pre season if possible.

Just think the nature of the deals we are trying to do are quite complicated.

Not worried. Really depends what our overall aim is this season. We have a squad capable right now of being in the top half of the table.

Top 6? I don't think so. But with 3/4 more signings that could quickly change.

I don't think our current squad gets us in to the top half ?

We have one striker.

Not worried but I think we may be targeting players above what we can get, like with Hirts last summer. I hope this time we have suitable back up options.

Just hope we don't spend all summer chasing this Simms guy and Hirst, to not then get either and start panicking like last summer, ending up with one crock and a guy who was out of his depth. We cannot go into this season on the back foot. We need bodies in the door. At the moment we look woefully weak in the no. 9 position. We also need an experienced centre half. As l don't think either Wolf or Burgess will cut it. Need championship experience along side one of them

Tho it seems, from reading reports, that we came back for pre-season around a week before some of our rivals. Leeds' first training session was not said to be until Wednesday, for example.

One issue is that if we are going for really good targets, so will other clubs be. The process will take longer and clubs may be less willing to lose their younger, better players. We may be keen to get business done early, but Town are not in control of all the variables on that.

Besides which, better to be patient and get our man than rush around manically and end up with the third or fourth choice when we needn't have. The former is how we manged to eventually get Hirst on loan and sign Taylor, so a long game is not excluded from the ITFC playbook.

I also think we may be keeping some of our powder dry for January reinforcements/adjustments/injury replacements. We're not going to blow everything in this window. Certainly not for pure crowd-pleasing spectacle (i.e. we aren't going to have a "big signing" just to keep fans onside).

No

I'm surprised at some of the negativity / panic that is appearing on here already. (Thinking about it, I shouldn't be surprised)

I'm not at all. Its quality over quantity. We've already spent £1.5m on 1 player which is more than most at this level are doing.

I would say we're only actually 1 striker short of being ready in terms of need to have, the rest are nice to have and upgrades.

Not worried, but I do think we need to get people in before Austria. We've been in the situation before where we've tried to bed new players in right as the season begins and it's always a bit rough.

We need to keep the momentum of last year if we can, don't want a rocky start.

Every club will want to get deals done as early as possible and we're not the only club to have a slow start to the window so not overly worried but there's a slight concern we have a repeat of last summer where we try to be a bit overambitious and end up waiting around for ages only to not sign the player we want.

Expect we'll be looking at Simms type players i.e. young players at PL clubs who are ready to flee the nest but the problem with that is PL clubs have only just started to come back for pre-season and they often like to have big squads, especially for their tours, so, for e.g. a player like Rak-Sakyi is someone who will likely go out on loan but equally Palace will want to keep him around their squad for the summer before giving him the green light to move.

Slight complication our end is we're 1 in 1 out in terms of squad places so having to work hard to find places to shift players out to to make room which takes up time.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

We faffed over Hirst last season, then panicked and ended up with that guy from Burton at the last moment. So be patient doesn't always work well. Then any other targets we might have had will already be elsewhere.

Sheffield Wednesday went back yesterday.

To answer the OP, no not worried. It would be nice to have players through the door to give them time to bed in ahead of the Austria trip - but as I expect we're shopping in Premier League and they will want time to assess their own squads. Davis didn't join until 25th July - after Leeds pre-season tour.

I am sure there is lots going on behind the scenes we dont know about. Just because it isnt public knowledge who we are after then doesnt mean there aren't players we are negotiating for. I think it's good business not to be publicising who we are after.

Don't think can really compare with Leeds, their last PL game was 3 weeks after us so on a different schedule - same as Leicester who went back yesterday

Not just tidy, but a large squad pretty much right at the limit for numbers...I mentioned on another thread that I expected a "one out, one in" policy as it's not just about numbers and keeping players involved and happy, but there is the wage bill to consider.

So far, we've had...

Out: Penney / In: Leigh (replaced last season)
Out: KVY / In: Clarke (replaced last season)
Out: Coleman / In: Hayes
Out: Ndaba / In: Baggott
Out: Harper / In: Taylor
Out: Keogh
Out: Ahadme

So we've made room in the squad for another Centre-Back and Striker, who I'm sure we'll sign when the right players become available at the right price.

Pretty obvious Pigott is looking to be moved on which will make room for another attacking player, and if El Miz goes out on loan (which has been reported as being looked at) that will free another space, but then we'd be looking at moving on players who had decent involvement last season to bring in anyone else.
