But the sight of the (new) Princess of Wales applauding Federer whilst looking like a love-sick puppy has made me throw up in my mouth a little bit.

Rich people doing rich people things.

I'm talking about the occasions I've heard him in post-match interviews, particularly when he lost to Andy Murray, where he came across as a gracious loser.

If we are talking about his views which wasn't the point of my comment, better in my opinion to say "I don't like or agree with his views".

This is the sports equivalent of saying you like Jacob Rees-Mogg because 'he always speak politely'.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

I don't think that's a valid comparison, because Djokovic is a sportsperson, a group not generally known for their political or other wisdom.

As it is, I find Rees-Mogg rude, as well as objecting to his views, but on the other hand, I always found, say, Oliver Letwin a nice person, whilst still objecting to his views.

At the end of the day, I believe in playing the ball not the man, but sadly not many do these days, with personal abuse taking the place of reasoned argument.

And I am a true liberal, who believes that people are entitled to have, and express, a different opinion to me.

It is all part of a device to present Kat and Juan Carlos jnrmas ordinary folk who just happen to be the next King and Queen.

Here they are in a pub, in a restaurant and some endless photos of the lively soaraway Kate taking part in jolly hockery sticks type activities.

Not for them the privileges of millionaires.

My comment is it is not them, but what they represent. The delusion that we live in a meritocracy. We don't. The country is still run for the benefit of the few, kept in place by millions of cap doffers who should know better by now. But don't.

"Thems our betters, thems is"

Yes, as long as you prostrate and debase yourselves to them, they are

By ‘betters’ do you essentially mean folk who passed GCSE English?

The 'revolting' in this thread is the wrong kind of revolting ...

Don't see what's wrong with the love-sick puppy look anyway - some people moan because they say the RF are too distant from 'ordinary' people, then moan when the RF actually show they have the same emotions as 'ordinary' people. Looks like they can't win.

It's not the distance from the ordinary people that's the problem.

It's the laughable pretence that we live in a democracy. Or the ridiculous notion that we can have a "Constitutional Monarchy" when we don't have a Constitution. Or the idea that the Head of State is one of the checks and balances on abuses of power, but when Johnson illegally closed down OUR Parliament, the Late Queen didn't want to get involved. Or when Lebedev was put forward for a peerage and the Security Services contacted the Palace to state that this was a security risk, the Late Queen didn't want to get involved.

Then there's the fact that vast tracts of their land was stolen common land, plundered from our ancestors by their ancestors, or that huge reserves of their wealth had their origin in the slave trade, or that the massive diamonds in the Crown Jewels were stolen from India.

There's even the fact that hundreds of people sat near the Princess today queued for hours through the night for their seat, and paid for it from their own pockets. She didn't even have to click on some traffic lights on Ticketmaster to prove that she was a human, the frustration of which would have been a test of her emotions that would have lent her a common touch.

The Dutch king has recently apologised for the country's involvement in the slave trade. I wonder when our royal family will do the same, if ever.

I would never in a million years post a "would you", treating men as objects.

What? I would be considerably star struck meaning Roger Federer, probably dissolving into an even more gibberish wreck than I normally am!

Chelts OP was saying Kate had gone starry eyed meeting Federer and I was suggesting that he would do the same

I’m not sure what’s 40 years out of date about star struck at meeting someone who is a once in a generation sporting legend.

Wimbledon is like a festival but for Tories.

The whole thing baffles me.

That said, I have no issue with tennis conceptually.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Yesi know it was

Meaning come on Chelts you’d be jealous (of Kate) given (the chance to meet Federer) you would go (stary eyed) wouldn’t you

What’s wrong with that?

Well I'll take you at your word on that, and my apols for misunderstanding. The problem was that so many of your posts have in the past have had intentional double or treble meanings (edit for grammar & clarity: - meaning, ie, that was why I (mis)read your post on this thread as I did).

Leaving it there and wishing you a peaceful good night :)
