That one vs Sunderland where chambers lost the inability to function is high on my list. For an experienced player, and captain, to do that was the stuff of nightmares.
Or that Tuesday night 0-2 defeat to Middlesbrough in the relegation and his set-up for their second goal and pass straight towards their player.
A couple of weeks later 0-3 defeat at Millwall and calamitous mix-up between him and Bialkowski.
The amount of points and goals he cost us.

Forgotten how bad that 3rd goal was. Comedy of errors and then some. Painful to see Lambert on the highlights. What a fraud he was.
That day was a Paul Lambert masterclass, they put Morrison or someone on the right wing and let him totally bully Myles Kenlock whilst we had an international left back on the bench in Jonas Knudsen who was a very good defender.
Think PL was trying to prove a point at that point to get one over the line - enter Callum Elder

There was no way to avoid the relegation with defending like this. Before anyone points out at Lambert or Hurst for that season it needs to be said that 4 out of 5 (goalie and defence) were the players with the big Championship experience. Totally careless, schoolboy defending and no wonder we got down with such awful team.

Bart obviously makes a big error for the first one, but he was a superb keeper for us - Pennington loses his man totally for goals 2 and 3 and it's no surprise that a season with us a bad Championship team was the high point of his career

First goal around 10 seconds in
1 town player even attempted to jump for the ball, gerken pushes it backwards, with a weak hand, behind him from under the goal line
if we werent so shockingly bad that season i'd have wanted an FA investigation into a possible betting scandal
I remember that game being painful, but think mentally switched off after Nsiala gives away that stupid penalty right on half time - ever the optimist I was hoping for a reaction at half time......had blanked out how bad the second half was

It was up there with the 0-3 at home to Wednesday before Big Mick came in. Just an utterly abject performance all round.

If the point was 'I am an incompetent lazy fraud' he certainly managed that.
I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

That game was the pits of the earth. The players chucked in the towel.
Close behind was the 4-1 humping by Wednesday in I think 93/94 - the end of Lyall/McGiven. Carlton Palmer went through the whole team for 4-0 like Maradona. I left as the pitch invasion began. A shameful display.

It wouldn't have made a difference. Knudsen may have been a 'very good interneational' yet he was utterly awful that season. See the equaliser for Reading for example and his half-arsed effort to help Pennington out who himself had to deal with the two giant Reading forwards.

Pennington having lost 'his men' wouldn't have happened if the other players had been doing their jobs.
Second goal. Bristol City's Kelly running slowly with the ball. Skuse just jogging and making no effort whatsoever, Edwards a minimal attempt to stop him and finally Spence allowing to make a cross. Three players did nothing and subsequently Pennington lost his man.
Third man. Almost the same people. Kelly running with the ball. Skuse, Chalobah, Edwards all hopeless and useless spectators. And again, Pennington losing their man.
That is far more accurate than your view. Pennington wasn't the only culpable one.

Pennington was utter dross though. Probably made more costly individual errors than any defender I've seen in a Town shirt before or since, and positionally one of the poorest defenders I've ever seen. There's a reason he's found his level at Shrewsbury.

It was embarrassing. I was so disillusioned that night, I was convinced we were going down. Mick worked a minor miracle to keep us up that season.

I was talking about specific things from the Bristol City game though. Their second and third goal.
Pennington wasn't better or worse than any of the defenders from that season.

The second and third goals where he just completely loses his man you mean? Yeah, they were very much the kind of costly errors I think of when I remember Pennington's time here. Way out of his depth.

I think Ive blanked out the entire game. Literally no recollection of this to the point where Im thinking maybe I missed the game for some reason....
Edit: Gone back through photos and seems I was on a flight from Tokyo at the same time. Oblivious.
