I think it's just a take it as it comes type of radio. I quite like it as I find with Spotfiy I just end up listening to the same old tracks over and over. Not a substitute for Spotify, but I think it's a great little internet radio station.

If you pay, do you just simply not get ads?

I stopped using Spotify a few years ago but you don’t get ads and you can listen offline as well as listen to specific songs as opposed to songs chosen at random from your playlist. You can pretty much get this same functionality for free by using the iPad or web browser versions though.
Spotify subscription going up to £10.99 next month on 15:25 - Jul 27 with 2481 views | Illinoisblue | Recently switched to Apple Music after being with Spotify for years. Hadn’t intended to switch but got a deal via our mobile phone monthly plan that gets us Apple Music free for two years. I’ve regretted every moment of the switch; the Spotify interface is a hundred times better than Apple.

As Sarge says, you get better features with the paid service. i only really listen on my phone when out cycling or walking. Mostly use it on my laptop while working, so might just go Spotify free version if they have all the functions.

This is what I don’t understand either. An entire world of music at your fingertips for the price of a few flat whites. How can anyone knock that?

I could never go for the free version as I listen regularly while driving and in the gym, and without unlimited phone data I'd run out so quickly. As others have said, even at the new price I think it's great value. I'm also getting into more podcasts recently.

I moved to Amazon mainly as I was a bit fed up with Spotify as a company but I really miss being able to dip into other people's playlists, which lead you down different wormholes. I've got old CDs from the late 80s with £13.99 price stickers so music is relatively cheap now.

Well played - very few musicians make a living now purely from music from what I hear. Mind you, we've just got so skint, we've ditched spotify too - hope the adverts go some way to providing some income. Yours, a dirty hypocrite. [Post edited 27 Jul 2023 17:19]

And the artists get? Fine if you play all the big names. If you have any real love and respect ofr music and enjoy smaller scale or niche artists, you might as well be pissing on their cornflakes.

Good point on CD prices. I do kinda miss them though. I liked it with Spotify where podcasts were contained within the app. Whereas with apple, they’re separate. Small annoying thing.

The artists still get whatever they'd get from youtube it's a paid subscription - same as any other person living in India pays

A pittance either way. Given that they get a portion of the total income, Im not sure what you say is right either. More importantly, its actually theft.

nope paying a full price subscription artists would get £x per hit, no matter if I paid £1, £2 or £3 a month. I think you're trying to be too virtuous here
