I know he had a few incidents during his playing career which doesn’t endear him to England fans, but I’ve really enjoyed listening to him during this whole Ashes series. Genuinely, seems a very decent bloke.
Agreed. Very shallow of me, but went into this Ashes automatically thinking I didn’t like him, but he seems humble, intelligent, I could listen to him talking about the cricket all day. As you say, genuinely seems a nice bloke.
Always grudgingly liked him as a cricketer, proper competitor who played the game hard but generally in the right spirit. As a pundit he's excellent, very insightful and knowledgeable, also balanced and just quite likeable.
He used to do evening Sporting Dinner type things at my mates restaurant, Balls Brothers near Leadenhall. Very good value apparently. Gatting was an animal who’d eat anything left over by anyone else. Brazil, did it to my mates delight, George Cohen, and others, but the one hand he came out of the kitchen to make sure he shook was Jimmy Greaves.
Have you listened to him in this series? Really doesn't come across as like that at all. And I certainly wasn't a fan of his before.
Yes. And I have seen him do things like claim that Australia dont want rain / slow play as they want to win, at the last test.... Claim that plainly grounded catch was a "disgrace".

If that's the incident I'm thinking of, wasn't the decision generally hotly contested?
