So, Reading sold out again. 11:25 - Aug 24 with 9843 views | SitfcB | That’s probably just over 2,000 tickets sold and potentially more to come. Mental, thought we might’ve sold 500 or so. But let’s see how many turn up

So, Reading sold out again. on 12:18 - Aug 24 by LankHenners | They'll have to do something if this carries on as it patently isn't fair if people miss out on a game they wanted to attend because of point hoarding. Would be a massive pain for attending fans and an added complexity for the club to sort out all because of people's selfishness. |
I agree, but it's hard to know what the club can do about it. It's something of a flaw in the system. It hadn't really occurred to me that people would do this to be honest, until the Sunderland game approached and a way higher than normal number of posts appeared offering tickets for the game. There will always be some folk who buy a ticket and genuinely can't go (this happened to me with QPR) but it was pretty evident that people were buying tickets with the intention of reselling them so they could get the point.

People got caught out with Sunderland though, that made it to general sale, so people that got a ticket just to sell on were a bit out of luck, wasn’t the game to do it. QPR was always going to sell out quick, so that was the game to do that. Sheffield Wednesday should make it to general sale.

I guess one way to address it is to send tickets out as late as possible so that there's no real time for people to sell them on? Most of the away days I'd be interested in this year fall on bloody Tuesdays and work commitments mean I can't go to them. Frustrating. I'd do Wednesday away but I'm in London that weekend.

Whatever happened to regional Supporters Clubs? by SitfcB 23 Aug 2023 14:36Saw this on FB earlier…
Finally heard back from the club regarding tickets for away games!
Good afternoon, [REDACTED]
Thank you for your email below which has been passed to us from our customer service team.
We as a club are very aware of supporters suggesting they are buying tickets to earn the point and then either selling on/not attending the match in question. This is something we are monitoring and understand our approach to this is to resolve and prevent this issue so please bear with put anything we can in place.
In response to your question regarding the supporters' branches, we are working with the Official Supporters Club to work out a long-term strategy to help branches from near and far get access to match tickets where needed. As you can imagine the Suporters Club have been inundated with requests for new branches so they are collating this information so we can formulate this strategy.
Sorry I cannot give more detailed information in response to your questions, but I can assure you we are working move things forward on both matters highlighted.
Regards,
Gavin

So, Reading sold out again. on 12:13 - Aug 24 by IPSWICHFANITFC | I agree. I do think this could come round to backfire on us supporters if the club decide to go down a route of collection and ID at ticket offices etc because people are abusing the system. I sometimes watch Brighton and I had this when I did Man City away last season - my name was on the ticket in black marker pen and I had to show ID when being searched. If the club want to enforce it, they can. All this for 'the cheap point' though... |
Lolz if 3 hours before ko they announce that only tickets that are scanned on the night are awarded points and that refunds are now closed.

Would have to be something punitive to the person doing it, i.e. they don't get the priority point if either the ticket isn't used or if it isn't them that's using it (because they've sold it on). Given that most grounds at this level (I think, without looking it up) scan tickets in then the data is presumably available for it to be possible to see who actually went from who bought tickets. Could potentially bring in ID checks at the ground as well. Obvious problems is that it's complicated and more hassle for the club (and the home team), plus there could be instances of, for e.g., person A and person B normally go together, A can't go to one game so B takes person C, using A's account number to get 2 tickets together at the same time, but then A doesn't get the point and now A and B are out of sync which could affect getting tickets together at future games. Could also argue that if someone wanted to go but genuinely can't, but finds a family member or friend who can and uses their number to buy a ticket, and then gets the point taken off them is being treated a bit harshly as that situation is different to someone gaming the system. Hard to really be fair to everyone and people will always find problems with whatever system is used but, as I originally said, would be surprised if the club don't eventually make a move to stop what is obviously going on.

It's surprised me with how panicked people have been over the points system. There's quite a lot of grounds this season that shouldn't be an issue getting a ticket even if you're going to be on the 5-14 points mark for the first half of the season. If were quick on the day for QPR, then you were able to get one with 5 points.

I just don't think it is as big an issue as people are suggesting, and if people really are just speculatively buying tickets for games they will be out of pocket quite quickly I imagine when we hit big away ends in Sep/Oct/Nov. Since I've been going to away games there has been a lending of season ticket and gold cards to help friends or family members get tickets to games (or to enable people to sit together) and all has been well, I think going nuclear on this and requiring ID checks etc. at games will alienate a lot of people.

I agree. The people who can get the tickets are the ones that went to the away games last season but they aren’t going to the away games this season because they get a point now instead? I suspect the current “problem” won’t be much different to the lending of GC numbers in previous seasons and it will calm down as it beds in.

I can't imagine the home team is going to want to check the ID and ticket of 2000 Town fans and report back to the club. They would be able to tell which tickets haven't been used more easily I'd imagine, but then is it fair to punish people who had a legitimate last minute reason for not going? I think this has exposed that any system that relies on people not being dicks is doomed to fail.

Wasn't suggesting they should do all those things just spitballing what they could do if they decided to so something about it, which imo is reasonably likely. I've already said that any measures brought in would likely be a pain for people and, as above, think what you've described isn't necessarily an issue but obviously hard to distinguish that from someone buying a ticket just to sell it on. Ideally they wouldn't have to bring in anything that would be detrimental to the match experience, i.e. subjected to extra checks and/or having to sit away from friends and family but unfortunately I just think the complaints are going to rack up and the club will feel they have to step in in some way.

Its not sharing numbers its buying tickets for an away point then just not going. ID checks wont change this. Its not abusing the system at all - its cleverly getting points for key away games. The clubs get the money so neither are really going to care.
