So, Reading sold out again. 11:25 - Aug 24 with 9874 viewsSitfcB

That’s probably just over 2,000 tickets sold and potentially more to come.

Mental, thought we might’ve sold 500 or so.

But let’s see how many turn up

Its not sharing numbers its buying tickets for an away point then just not going. ID checks wont change this. Its not abusing the system at all - its cleverly getting points for key away games. The clubs get the money so neither are really going to care.

It’s not clever. It’s unbelievably selfish to buy a ticket that you have no intention of using and depriving people of a ticket who genuinely want to go,

Exactly right. I so hope the club can somehow identify the people doing it and impose some sort of penalty. Give them their £40 back and cancel their membership would be good.

How do you differentiate between someone who has done that or someone who has: tested positive for Covid on the day / been kept at work / broken down on the way / been let down by public transport or any of the other genuine reasons people have for late non-attendance.

Exactly. It isn't possible to do these checks.

That was why I said ‘somehow identify those that are doing it,’ I don’t know how that can be achieved but I wish that it could be. Those that boast about it on the internet might be a good place to start.

People got caught out with Sunderland though, that made it to general sale, so people that got a ticket just to sell on were a bit out of luck, wasn’t the game to do it.

QPR was always going to sell out quick, so that was the game to do that.

Sheffield Wednesday should make it to general sale.

Hope so.

I’m married to a Wednesday fan, and we always sit in the respective home end when we play each other - but, given the prospect of a point I might try’s and get a ticket in the away end.

Not that my points count for much. 12 aways last season, but for the first time since I gave up my season ticket a few years ago I wasn’t a member so I’m starting from scratch. (Not complaining, theme the breaks… but I may be here cap in hand in December seeing if anyone wants an extra point for Elland Road!)

I must say I preferred the gold card system.

Ok we missed out on a couple of games because we weren’t around to get tickets when they became available but we accepted that.

We have had gold cards ever since they started doing them and it worked out fine. Now to see people trying to get points by buying tickets and not going to games is not sitting well with me.

Reading is our closest game this season and although we both got tickets as we have enough ‘points’ I haven’t been able to get them for my son and granddaughters who have always been to several games each season. It will annoy me if we see loads of empty seats knowing they could have gone with us.

I just don't think it is as big an issue as people are suggesting, and if people really are just speculatively buying tickets for games they will be out of pocket quite quickly I imagine when we hit big away ends in Sep/Oct/Nov.

Since I've been going to away games there has been a lending of season ticket and gold cards to help friends or family members get tickets to games (or to enable people to sit together) and all has been well, I think going nuclear on this and requiring ID checks etc. at games will alienate a lot of people.

It's a problem but, I agree, it's overstated. The main driver here is that more people want to attend Town games home and away. Not in the too distant past it wasn't a problem to get a ticket pretty much for any game but now demand is outstripping supply.

Tell ya what will suck.. I’ve no chance whatsoever of getting a ticket for Scum away this year.

Done about 100 away games across the last 7 seasons but because of work, I only know two weeks before if I’m gonna be able to go to games. So like with QPR, I have to buy from someone else like I did with your good self.

Means when it comes to the Scum game I won’t be able to get a ticket despite having qualified and gone to every game against them in the last ten years back when it was letters and all that jazz. Real shame.

You can have our tickets for that game Rommy if our points are high enough to get them. We can't go to it.

Spot on and think its a self-perpetuating situation. People see tickets being sold, even if its actually possibly on a relatively small fraction of the total ones, and word spreads that its a big problem, which means people are panicked to buy them up next time to make sure they arent left behind, which means the tickets go quickly and etc etc.

Amazing! Thankyou. Have PMed you.

My first home game of the season Saturday. Was unable to get to the Stoke game but am off Saturday so will be at FPR! Buzzing for it after QPR last week.

This thread has a beautiful symmetry.

In parts condemning fans who game the system to get tickets.

In parts a clearing house for fans who want to game the system to get tickets.

As the season progresses people's accumulated points will rise, does that mean that 'points needed' will rise too?

....I reckon we'll be looking at 45+ points to have a chance of tickets.

To be fair, I’ve never moaned at the people who are buying and then selling tickets.

I’m just saying, having done maybe 100 aways in the last 7 years, it’s somewhat gutting for me that now we’ve got good, the system has changed precisely when I only get notice of Saturdays off after the tickets are on sale.

Top man mate - thankyou. Will be able to get Southampton and Wednesday tickets myself I think because I’m off that week so can arrange it but a couple of the London games later this year may sell too quick before I can know if I’ve got the Saturday off. Unsurprisingly, Saturdays are my busy shift with the horse racing. Likewise the big festivals (bar Cheltenham which I obviously refuse to work)!

is there any actual evidence that this is happening? i got accused of this at the weekend when 3 out of 4 of my booking party still went it was just a balls up from me. only thing ive seen is there seems to be an increase of women buying tickets and looking to sell them on twitter....

But if it is such a widespread and big issue that some people believe it is they should move to the england away system. You apply for an away game have a cut off date, 75% of the allocation goes to people who have a certain amount points, they have to buy before a certain date then the rest go into a general sale, but you could say members who didnt have enough points for the guaranteed limit get a priority window to buy, then goes to general sale.

But i really dont think this is a widespread big issue that some people are making it out to be.

Agreed, blown out of all proportion on here at least. I suppose it’s a product of being so unsuccessful over the last 20 years that people forget how clubs with demand etc work.

If anyone has a spare or a number if any more come up, I'd be grateful - 10 miles from Reading and missed out completely. Thanks
