Anyone else had a short drivving ban? on 09:45 - Sep 13 by WeWereZombies | Some of the A10 is dual carriageway both sides now so 70 mph is legally possible, even so 113 mph is more than 50% over the limit - so like doing over 48 mph on an city street, or just over 32 mph past a junior school at three in the afternoon... |
Um - no, not like! but I'm guessing you were wearing your ironic hat. My 35 in a 30 was due to moving from Leeds Outer Ring road (limit 40) to Leeds Leeds Inner Ring road (limit 30) without even knowing it - in effect it was a wrong turn by simply by being in the wrong lane - easily done, as anyone who's driven to Elland Rd (where I was heading) will know. The roads look exactly the same.

Sounds like somebody needs to revisit the Highway code to learn how to identify a 30mph zone. If no signage, street lights are an indicator. You're having a go at me and you barely understand the rules of the road?

No, not being ironic. Trying to emphasize the scale of Blueas' wrong doing - 48 mph in a thirty zone is fully deserving of a penalty whereas, as you say, thirty five is quite unlucky. And also pointing out that something many of us may fail on is keeping to thirty or thereabouts when the twenty mile an hour restriction applies and could be especially tragic.

Go visit the road and see for yourself. The street furniture is identical.

Then one should err on the side of caution. "Assume it's 30mph unless signage says otherwise". I am glad you don't live round my way, you sound like a menace on the roads.

I wasn't referring to your "48 in a 30" (which is obviously dangerous) - just to the last part of your post, 32 in a 30 (which does carry some increased risk of course, but nothing like 113mph albeit on a 70 dual carriageway even if it *looks* empty.

My 32 mph point was about doing that speed when it is school dropping off or picking up time and the speed limit is 20 mph.

One of my nephews got an 18 month ban for ton up. Well ton up and failing to stop and then generally being a dick when arrested, now has to re-take tests as he couldn't take time off from new job to have wizz test. So he has now obtained an electric bike. What could go wrong?

I'm sure you mentioned previously that you drive a Land Rover? Purring through a built up and pedestrian heavy area of Leeds with 2 tonne of car behind you and at nearly 20% over the limit sounds incredibly dangerous.

I was obeying the speed limit until inadvertantly going onto the inner ring road, where the speed limit had (without any indication as I've already said) changed. This was several years ago, so I hope the then very poor road signage has now changed. And 5mph over the speed limit in a 30 isn't "20% over the limit" - it's almost within the 10% tolerance limit. But hey, you just carry on trying to pick an argument, as per. I haven't yet seen you criticise blueas for his 113. [Post edited 13 Sep 2023 10:47]

I understand how it happened, I'm not for a second saying it was intentional on your part. Sadly ignorantia juris non excusat. It's 16.7% over the limit so I'm not sure how you can take exception to me saying 'almost 20%' yet revise it down to 'almost within 10%'. I'm critical of anyone who drives dangerously so yes I would denounce blueas as well as yourself. [Post edited 13 Sep 2023 10:53]

well I am not the one trying to justify my dangerous driving. You don't see me bemoaning "lack of signage" as a (poor) excuse, do you? [Post edited 13 Sep 2023 11:12]

You can do 10% + 2 before you get a ticket so 79 and you wont get clocked. In Suffolk and Norfolk anyways. [Post edited 13 Sep 2023 11:30]

I think it's generally 10% + 9 until you're not offered a course as well, certainly by a lot of forces. So anything up to 86 which does feel high to me. 85 in a 70 should be 3 points.

I thought you were a bit better than such disingenuousness. Clearly the rest of the UK's drivers don't need roadsigns saying "don't exceed 100mph". This is getting boring now. I'm out.

Had convo with a traffic cop a few years ago - and the guidelines were 10% + x where x varied by county. At the time Essex was 2, Warwickshire was 9. So you could do 77+9-86 and not get a ticket. No idea what the different amounts are now. They were set locally for some reason.

Yes, I can see why they got hacked off. Always best to descend to Uriah Heap levels of grovelling and servitude to the police if you get stopped. You are guaranteed bad news if you don’t.
