But I am sure we will carry on engaging in an interesting and constructive way.

Of course, goes without saying.

As someone aged 63 and so not entitled to the vaccine, I wouldn't mind a bit of DJR-proofing, given my wife had it last week and my daughter this week, and it was far from a breeze for either of them.

I've just opened a letter from my doctor's surgery inviting me for a flu vaccine.

As free flu vaccines (as well as Covid vaccines) are not meant to be for people of my age, I think they may still have me down as a carer for my late mother.

I am not going to disabuse them of that notion, and perhaps I will also be invited to book a Covid vaccine in due course.

Getting that and flu done on Tuesday.

Our devolved health service up here have decided that unless I work in the frontline or have underlying health conditions, I’m not entitled to the Covid jab. Despite giving me an appointment.

I've not been invited for any so won't be having any which begs the question why was everyone panicked into having a vaccination in the first place.

Getting pretty bored of how many decide to ignore context in order to make some kind of weird point concerning covid and vaccinations.

As you well know, when vaccinations were being rolled out we were at a stage where large numbers of people were dying, there was no real level of natural immunity against covid and the NHS was at breaking point.

People were not "panicked" into having a vaccination, it was at a time when there was a very nasty virus circulating causing huge health problems across the globe. Vaccination hugely reduced hospitalisations and deaths and was clearly a large part in bringing things under any form of control.

Reframing history with the current context of large levels of natural immunity and a heavily mutated virus which no longer affects the lungs in the same way and then saying people were "panicked" into using the vaccine is hugely disingenuous.

So basically it is now regarded as having the same mortality rate as the flu and therefore seen as a less a threat in people under 65 unless they are vulnerable. Is that correct? . Only asking as I was offered a free flu jab last year but not this.

Oops sorry, wrong login 😊

PS. Shed loads of people over here going down with this (presumably) new variant. In terms of numbers of people I know/work with, it’s similar to some of the big waves we had a couple of years ago. I’ve only heard of 1 person particularly unwell, thankfully. There’s no response any more though. No reporting, testing or anything like that.

Plus, it's worth reminding again, that even a light dose will increase your chances of picking up a nasty blood clot.

I wonder if that’s the same with new variants (as that article is a year old and so the info it’s based on will be even older, obviously). If it is, it’s somewhat surprising we’re not hearing more messaging about trying to keep safe.

Even if there are no official social distancing/lockdown type measures, you’d at least expect the elevated clotting risk to be highlighted and people encouraged to take precautions. We had a pretty good campaign in Wales last winter targeted at reducing flu/Covid (tips on avoidance, such as avoiding congested indoor spaces, meeting outside where you can, wearing masks on public transport, etc). I don’t think I’ve seen anything yet this year* despite lots of people seemingly catching this new variant.

It's something we all going to have to live with like the flu. People will tske up the jabs and others won't. Personal choice for everyone end of the day.
