Where have I said it's binary? Where have I said anything about it being a very simple choice between wearing an armband and being stripped of the captaincy?

My "pure hyperbole" comment was directed at Glassers, who asserted that not forcing a Muslim to do something against their religion is throwing the whole LGBTQIA+ under the bus.

The club have already done a number of rainbow initiatives and I'd welcome more, absolutely. If Morsy feels it appropriate to explain then fair enough, but I'm quite happy for him to keep a dignified silence on the matter while the club itself does everything else. He's not a spokesman or a politician, he's a footballer, and I don't see why he should be forced into this position. I really don't think there's a need to make it about one person (and for that one person to be representing the whole club on this matter).

Can't remotely see how that view is binary, but there we go.

"My "pure hyperbole" comment was directed at Glassers, who asserted that not forcing a Muslim to do something against their religion is throwing the whole LGBTQIA+ under the bus."

Except I didn't say that. I said you were throwing the lgbtq+ community under a bus for suggesting people should keep quiet about the matter as it is upsetting our success.

A religious belief that all people should not be free to live their own lives as they see fit, whilst causing no harm to others? Difficult to justify, right?

I am not doubting his contribution on the pitch, but the wider community must be disappointed with him failing to represent minority rights on this day.

So everyone can live their lives according to their sexuality and religion except Sam?

Last time I checked, he hadn't said anything on the matter.

You've jumped to your own conclusion.

I would label an extremist as one who does not tolerate the lifestyle of others, and those that support that belief.

How do we know what he believes? And why should not participating in something automatically make him guilty of something else?

And I have been following the thread as it raises lots of interesting points with regards to freedom of choice.

I ask the question, because I don't know what his beliefs are, but his beliefs appear - according to this thread - to be why he does not want to wear the arm-band and project ITFC support to the community.

To me this thread stinks of societal regression.

Do you think anyone at all, should be forced to do anything they are not comfortable with?

It's a simple , "yes" or "no", question..

It's a funny subject, often those who cry foul about free speech in relation to LGBTQ+ or BLM gestures are first to forcibly demand everyone wears a poppy and there should be no debate on the matter

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

You are mixing the individual with the club.

Unlike Sam - probably, I believe - like you I guess, - everybody is free to do what they like as long as they don't mess with others.

Apologies, you did clarify it was me throwing the LGBTQIA+ community under the bus not Sam. And I did reply on that. Which you've decided not to reply to for some reason, so I'll repost it here;

"You think texters has "strong views on the subject of lgbtq+ rights" and not just sh!t-stirring?! Given he hasn't made another post on the subject, or even clarified his view in the OP, there's not a lot of evidence.

This is not really about LGBTQIA+ rights. No-one's disputing them (including Morsy). It's about whether a Muslim footballer should be forced to wear an armband. If we're being tolerant to people then should we not be tolerant to his religion? Or do LGBTQIA+ rights trump religious rights?!

My view is that forcing a religious person to do something against their religion makes me very uncomfortable.

BTW it's LGBTQIA+. If you're going to support a cause (and throw our captain under the bus as a side show) you might want to at least get the acronym right."

"Sam believes that the LGBT + community should not exist"?!?!?!

Wowsers, as hot takes go that's a scorcher.

Also, it's LGBTQIA+. If you're so up in arms about the apparent lack of support for this community you ought to know the correct acronym (particularly when I've posted it several times).

As he represents the team and the club should Morsy not be persuaded? Support for the community should be shown, right?

As long as Morsy ( or any other employee of itfc for that matter) do not do anything that actively supports discrimination against anyone, I don't care if he ( or anyone else) chooses not to wear an armband, poppy, badge or any other such symbol of support. People are free to choose. If they are compelled by others ( in this case their employer maybe), their 'support' is meaningless anyway.

Oh it's the "I'm only asking questions" defence is it?! Right, I've got you.

Ok. Spell it out why Morsy is not going to wear the arm-band to show inclusion and support for the community What specifically prevents him from doing that?

And please, nothing generic like .. it's his religious beliefs/personal choices, etc.

I'm using the same abbreviation as the official Rainbow Laces campaign. Which is what we are discussing.

https://www.stonewall.org.uk/our-work/campaigns/rainbow-laces

As for you suggesting that I am throwing Sam Morsy under a bus or forcing Morsy to wear the armband? That is total bollox. I said that it is Morsy's choice. I'm more concerned with people like you who would rather we didn't have this discussion as it may upset the apple cart. This is a perfectly legitimate debate.

As for texters? Firstly, I have no idea how Texters identifies or how he feels about LGBTQ+ rights. But your reply did not directly address texters. You said "SOME want to stir up trouble for the club" not YOU want to stir up trouble for the club". So I had assumed the post was aimed at those of us who were disappointed that Sam is not embracing the Rainbow Laces campaign, which is very important to our LGBTQ+ supporters.

The fact that you think having a perfectly legitimate debate about support for LGBTQ+ rights in the game is throwing "our captain under the bus as a side show" is a very poor reflection on you. The again, you do have form for trying to sweep principles under the carpet when it involves somebody you support.

Erm, why can't it be "his religious beliefs" if that's the answer? Sorry, but you don't get to decide what the Muslim doctrine is fella! It's possible to respect the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and also respect the rights of the Muslim faith, regardless of if you agree with it.
