Over achieving and over criticising 23:29 - Feb 10 with 9321 viewswaveneyblue

Just reading through comments on here and on facebook/x, there's becoming a really unpleasant theme with the level of criticism aimed at the team.

Certain posters have their favourite scapegoat, Burns, Hladky, Jackson, Wolfenden, Clarke, etc etc. Some go all in with criticism of the entire team or some proper random stuff i.e Moore and hilariously McKenna.

When you look back at the abject dross since 2015 (probably earlier if you ignore the fluke play off season) I'm really struggling to understand it.

Everything about the club is better, and virtually every player has improved but the level of negativity is off the scale. If you came on here blind to the league table you would think we were just below midtable .

The defence has allowed 7 shots on goal in the last 3 games. The midfield continues to create chances and the forwards were pretty decent today.

The over achievement has messed with people's heads and the entitlement is crazy.

Let's go back to enjoying the ride and supporting the team. It might just work in our favour.

As I've said before. Come end of season you reflect on the season as a whole.

Whilst it's in play you discuss what's happening as it happens. Which Is all I do. Have done and always will do. That as I've said before is what a forum is for and what football is all about.

We have only lost 4 games of football in the Championship this season. I get that you are on about the last 9 games, but every team has these dips. Southampton and Leeds had theirs at the start, we are having ours mid season. It happens to almost every club side in world football. We are in an extremely tough league with seasoned clubs at this level, so to be where we are as soon as we are is just amazing for a lot of fans. We don't all have this idea of perfection which you clearly have. If you ever played football at any level, then perhaps you should or would understand that.

This is Stuart Watson's take.

In the last three games, Ipswich have faced 17 shots (seven on target) and conceded seven goals. By contrast, they've produced 84 shots (29 on target) and scored five. Earlier in the season, the Blues were winning fine margin games by being ultra clinical in both boxes. Now they're going through a spell where that's tipped the other way. General performance levels haven't suddenly dropped off a cliff though.

A very tricky set of winter fixtures has been negotiated. Town have only one game left against the current top-five now and that's Southampton at home on Easter Monday. The nine matches between now and then - starting with Wednesday night's trip to Millwall - are all against teams in the bottom half. January recruits can make a difference once fully bedded in.

Entertainment is consistently being delivered. Lessons have no doubt been learned. Momentum can be regained. What will be, will be. Keep enjoying the ride.

Take a look at that table. Newly-promoted Ipswich Town have reached the 30-game mark averaging two points-per-game. That's remarkable.

Amen to that.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

It beggars belief that anyone could be unhappy. Our rise under KM has been meteoric and mesmeric at times to the point the bar of expectation has gone from nothing to peaking the altimeter in 18-month. As I said, stop the season now and I’d be delighted with 4th, the Baggies over two legs and a shot at Wembley / the PL.

Having said that, objective criticism is fair, vitriol isn’t. I’ve been critical of Clarke and the way KM is playing him given our tendency to leak silly goals from poor positioning and mistakes. That’s calling out areas of improvement for debate, not scapegoating or vilifying as a means to say it’s his fault we’ve only won 2 league games in 10. I haven’t seen too much scapegoating this season to be honest, such is the ride we’re on.

If you look at some of our underlying stats, especially xG for and against, we're playing as well if not better than we have been all season. We're third best in the league on both metrics. We're going through a bit of a spell where we're not as clinical as we need to be and every shot we face seems to fly into the back of the net. A similar thing happened this time last season, we weren't scoring enough and seemed to concede every chance against us. There's been signs in most of our games recently that we aren't far off really clicking and going on a run. We did it last year. The challenge this year is greater because the opposition is better but you can count on one hand the number of games where our opponents have been the better side this season, imo. Trust in the team, trust in McKenna, trust in the process. We'll be fine.

Cor. That's a prime example of eadt being in chains.

Not a chance the old eadt puts that out during a win of 1 in 9.. no chance.

The days of old used to be 1 win in 9 with no effort or desire shown, no hope and looking like we weren’t going anywhere.

To me it really doesn’t feel like it’s only 1 win in 9, we've had some really good performances within these last 9 games and I’ve left games happy and content with performances and the effort shown, even if it was just the second half performances like Leicester and Preston (a)

The only game I left truly disappointed was the Leeds game, understandably.

There’s a difference to not winning and playing badly and not winning and playing well.

Add the fact we’ve been unlucky in a lot of them as well.

The tide turns throughout the season and there are signs that we will get back on a winning run again very soon, and we need to.

If you look at the calibre of sides we’ve played and the relevancy of the games, two defeats in ten is no bad return. The draws against Stoke and QPR and the first half against Leeds were disappointing but like someone said, our next 9 fixtures are against st sides all in the lower half.

No need for panic. Plenty of football left.

This is key. If fans feel they have been entertained they will have a positive view. I am unable to get to watch games , so I have to gauge reactions from the comments on here, and, by a large majority they are positive.

That’s not true. Supporting a franchise hasn’t turned obsessive morons into toxic glory seekers = that happened long ago. Town’s support has had an increasingly large vile rump for decades.
