Realistically how many wins to finish second? 01:48 - Feb 18 with 5172 viewsJoey_Joe_Joe_Junior

One game at a time and all that but now we are getting towards the business end of the season, so it’s fun to try and map it out somewhat.

Two points a game from here on out probably still won’t be enough, which is just ridiculous. I am thinking a minimum of nine wins and a few more points somehow. We don’t half pick our seasons.

That would be insane, I can definitely see four sides get 90+ points

It will probably only be 70 points to get 6th as well

If we win Tuesday that matches Sunderland’s 6th place total last year I believe.

10 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats would hopefully see us over the line.

Yes I think you’re right.

This is the same Leeds team that drew at Rotherham and lost to Stoke. Anything can happen. Two away derbies at Sheff Wed and Huddersfield won't be formalities for example.

...and lost at Preston too, they're my favourites to go up with Leicester to be honest, however if they were to lose Summerville to injury for example then things could really change, he's that important ...

You have to say, if we are thinking with our head rather than our heart, we are probably third favourite out of three. I would say Leeds are favourites.

This is really based on current form and performances, for whatever reason we are looking a bit less fluent and we are grinding results out. At one point we were scoring for fun from all over the park but as the season has gone on I think teams have more data on us and have nullified us a bit.

Soton and Leeds annoyingly seem to be like a pair of juggernauts at the moment.

Edit; My main hope though is that we repeat last seasons end of season run.

I get you re goals - but 13 in the last 6 league games isn't bad going!

I still expect us to miss out.

14 wins I am very confident will see us 2nd. Failing that winning both of the final two matches we play this season will.

EDIT: In all seriousness, 11 wins takes us to 99 points from here. If that isn't enough to get 2nd, sobeit. We won 11 and drew 2 of our first 14 league matches. Repeat that in our final 14 and we will get to 101 points.

Yeah, it’s not just the parachute clubs it’s the fact they’d all been established in the PL for at least a few years. Usually can bank on a more poorly run yo-yo type side. Also usually one completely implodes. We’ve got all three up their breaking records. Fun.

It's almost unheard of for all three relegated sides to regroup as effectively as these three have. Villa stayed down for a season before bouncing back I seem to remember so even being an established Prem side doesn't always guarantee success. These three have kept most of their best players though and even added some quality too, all three are basically still Prem sides and it's showing. We've done a cracking job to still be well in the mix at this point.

I agree, just looking at Sheffield United today for example over my morning coffee and thinking there’s actually a gap in quality from the top 4 to this outfit.

Third consecutive home match they have conceded 5!

Yeah, I'm starting to think us matching Burnley over two games last season wasn't a fluke. The three sides that went up last year would be scrapping it out for 5th and 6th in this year's Championship, imo.

Makes you kind of hope 3 of the 4 go up and if we are the ones that unfortunately miss out we should at least be very strong again next year. Don’t want to go down that road now but I’d think the top end of champ should be weaker next season. Obviously lots of caveats in there on what could happen over the summer.

You are expecting Leeds (currently 2.1 ppg) and Southampton (currently 2.1 ppg) to go at significantly below 2 ppg over their last 13/14 games. I am not so sure. If we end on 93 points I don't think we will finish 2nd.

This makes it very difficult to predict.

I’ve just looked at last years table.

Sheff Utd came second with 91 points, having lost 11 games and ended up 11 points clear of Luton in third.

That’s a normal season. Why can’t we have a season like that?

If we can keep McKenna for one more year I’d be very confident about next season

If Burnley had stumped up the cash for Maatsen, Harwood-Bellis and Tella instead of gambling on duds they'd be doing much better, but in their current form all three of the promoted clubs would be adrift of the automatic places.

True. Maybe 95 on reflection. Tall order to get 10-wins though.

I don't think 95 will be enough for second this year either. I can see third place getting 96 or 97 this year potentially, which is insane.

11- 14: Top 2

9 - 10: Touch and go for top 2, depends on the amount of draws.

<9: Playoffs

This is probably correct, when I said 9 plus draws, I miscalculated and thought there was 13 left.
