Hello
Just wondering whether the TWTD hive mind will be kind enough to give me some advice regarding Shropshire. Is there a better part of kit to visit? And whether anyone has anyone can recommend some good places to visit whilst there? Must be child friendly - young children that is, not teenagers.

Long Mynd and The Stiperstones. Gorgeous hill walking, not steep so ok for kids and never too busy.

South Shropshire is more attractive imho (I lived round that way for 12 years and Mrs Factual grew up in Bridgnorth. Ironbridge Museums are a must-see -- something for kids of all ages. Bridgnorth, Bewdley (incl the Safari Park). The Severn Valley Railway. Ludlow. The Long Mynd, Wenlock Edge, and Much Wenlock (home of the modern Olympics.
If the kids misbehave, threaten to take them along the Bridgnorth Road to Wolverhampton. [Post edited 18 Mar 2024 18:27]

I like it. It’s an interesting part of the world. Countryside, loads of things to do. An absolute must is Ironbridge. Constructed in 1779 (Abraham Darby) it is the world’s first cast iron bridge. It is genesis.

The area, including Coalbrookdale is the cradle of the Industrial Revolution. One of the most important areas of Britain, in fact the world.
There is a museum at the Coalport China factory and the kilns used to fire it. Fascinating stuff. Nearby is Blists Hill. A Victorian ‘village’ recreation using existing and old buildings moved there. It shows how life was for people then and Mrs C particularly liked it and there is stuff for children there.
If you like aviation, as I do, the Cosford Museum is close, north and right of Telford. Lots to see there. Plenty of interesting aircraft for an aviation nut like me and the restoration hanger.
This is a bit adult - many apologies. It is quite a ‘tourist area’ and most places have things children can engage in, unlike days gone by.

The three best counties in England all begin with letter S - Somerset, Shropshire and some other county further east.
The moated medieval manor house, Stokesay Castle, is well worth a visit, and despite its name it is not really a castle.
The centre of Ludlow is just what people have been praising. Stay in the centre as outlying
parts are very deprived, but nobody ever mentions this. | | | |

I echo everyone's advice re: Shrewsbury, Ironbridge and Ludlow. Also some great walks (including the Wrekin, which I try and do every time I am back). |  |
