Fulham's new stand - horrific 13:17 - Mar 27 with 3878 viewsjasondozzell

Money continues to ruin football.

Thank god Ashton and owners seem to respect the history of our club and seem far more interested in the football and community aspect.

Corporate designs/culture is destroying every public space in this country!

That's not a million miles from Portman Road in fairly recent times... we had a lot of greenery on the North Stand roof...

Have a look at the images with the River Thames in it. They've made it look like Barbados.

Season tickets for the plebs in the lower section of this stand were I think £1000 this season, £500 for children. The interweb says up to £3000 for the upper section though the seat an acquaintance of mine was interested in was £7000. He gave up that idea.

I’ve been to Craven Cottage plenty of times. Home of the worst burger I’ve ever had. Grey is not a good colour. The ground? Quaint. How it looks with that dirty great stand down the side in the tin, so to speak? Odd, but they’re certainly going to make most money out of the corporate stuff.

I suspect if GC20 are serious about redeveloping PR, there will be something similar. I hope if they do, scale, aesthetics, sound, cohesion of the whole ground is taken into account.

Just had a look at the actual stand and have to say I don't hate it at all. It's completely unique and the back of it overlooking the water is great.

Ok that roof pool and bar etc is a bit out there but I don't see how it affects anything other than giving another revenue stream for them as that would be a great event venue.

Fair play to them for doing something different. Their stadium has always been unique.

Yeah exactly - presumably that's going to be some kind of year-round, luxury members club like Shoreditch House, which will be a huge money spinner, especially in that area of town. I think it's a great idea!

Ignoring some of the stupid bits like swimming pools, etc... It's a quite nice looking stand. Issue for me is it's very heavy on the business clients and tourist daytrippers and not enough for real fans. Given some of the costs for tickets I'm hearing, it's a rip off.

It's a balancing act between providing what corporate and hospitality demands nowadays, but not forgetting that most of your fans want a seat and maybe the odd concession, not bistro dining experiences. Feels a bit to me like this stands is 80% corporate with the general admission corners being a price gouge for daytrippers* and not hitting the required balance.

There isn't much of the stand to see in those images. It's all that hotel/club that they are showing.

Not so sure on that one Keno, the all day bbq is going to be big for that amount of catering & im thinking charcoal is made from? You’ve got it wood! Not to mention the drain off from that many vegan burgers might taint the pool a tad & if it got into the river then who knows………..oh & certainly no lpg set up’s no hydrocarbons here please!

Good article in the Athletic today about how rising costs and inflation are making new stands and/or stadiums insanely expensive. Chelsea and Man U looking at a BILLION pounds to redevelop existing or build a new one. Insane money.

What's wrong with that? I took my Mrs to Hillsborough in September 2022. W ehad a drink and a chat with Steve M and Mullet before the game in an outdoor terrace bar before going to the game.

She's not a regular attendee at football matches but she commented that one minute we are talking to a very cultured man (sorry Mullers, she didn't mean you) and the next minute we are being herded like cattle before receiving absolute sh1t service inside the ground.

Why can't football fans enjoy the nicer things in life whilst still enjoying the actual game?

I agree with you about the treatment of supporters; there's still a hangover from the 80s reckoning with hooliganism that views football fans as cattle and not deserving of decent treatment. But... In my mind, there's a big difference between treating supporters well and corporate greed treating the game as a plaything.

We should have better food and drink, decent concourses, good infrastructure and I love outside terrace bars as much as the next person...

But this is just turning football into an extension of every uniform, corporate and tasteless corporate hotel/office and all for the sake of money.

I don't want to go too rose tinted spectacles, but there's something romantic about grounds and the utilitarian nature of them gave them character in my opinion. Floodlights, turnstiles, steeped banking of seats. It's why Hillsborough is my favourite away ground.

This just seeks to turn football grounds into Westfield shopping centres. Why not put a cinema and casino on top too? It's just greed and corporate nonsense. Who goes to a ground to be impressed by a swimming pool?

New grounds can still look proper. Spurs ground seems to be a good example of

Calm down, its the rooftop of a hotel that is shown.

Not really surprised a hotel operator in that location would go for some wow factor.

Rest assured ITFC would put in a 5* hotel and pool if there was demand for it!

You mean there isn’t demand for a rooftop pool to overlook an insurance building?

Having done a few corporates at Fulham it’s a really soulless place with people more interested in drinking, networking, and eating. They used to have a neutral stand too which would be inevitably filled with away fans which didn’t help for atmosphere.

When I saw this I just thought ‘that’s so Fulham’. Not going to lose any sleep over it, it’s not the type of thing we’ll see all across the country.i can’t imagine Town will go down this route with the Cobbold, it’s probably a different demographic to West London, and fewer firms awash with excess capital.
