Just a thought on the KM speculation and rumours 17:18 - May 20 with 18419 views | blueasfook | It would be good if sooner rather than later the club would come out and confirm he's staying for next season. I don't think it will help our pre-season preparations if there is uncertainty around who will be the manager. I think it won't help either the current playing squad or any potential signings might be put off if they're not sure who our manager will be. Next season is going to be a huge challenge and we need solid foundations to make the best of it. I appreciate that the club perhaps haven't had firm approaches for him so don't feel the need to comment but something to quell the rumours would be good. For the fans if nothing else. The TalkSport bloke had it... on 20:55 - May 20 by portmanking | Pfffft. Nah, if he goes, feck him. It'll just prove there's no loyalty in the game anymore. What's the sodding point. He and the players have worked their asses off for 24 months for this specific goal. And now he's abandoning ship before even finishing the job. If this genuinely goes through, for me he'll be considered a top manager in our history but he'll have lost out on the chance to be considered a true legend. And for what? A team that's probably already reached the ceiling of its potential? Do me a fecking favour, Kieran. Rant over. |
Unfortunately I think I feel this way but I don’t want to

I don't want to feel like this but I do. Ramsey, Robson, perhaps Burley are managerial legends. McKenna would be someone who came in, took us up, then beggared off at the first opportunity.

Completely agree. People were talking about statues. McKenna speaks about this “special group” so often but now he might leave them? I’d be genuinely disgusted.

I really don’t get the Edwards link. His football is pretty crap to be honest, he even acknowledged that himself during several interviews last season.

I’d also feel this. It would taint his legacy for me massively. I really really hope he knows how much he is loved here, and that somehow sways him to stay. I could just about forgive Utd, and can forgive him for leaving in 12 months (unless we’re top 4 init), but it would leave a sour taste to go ahead of the season starting. And I hate typing this. C’mon Kieran.

It would make more sense for Brighton to appoint Edwards, in my opinion, as he knows the division already. Kieran would be coming in cold to the club structures, squad and division. If the worst were to happen then Edwards would be an exceptional replacement. Schumacher would be solid, and I'll throw in bonkers Carlos from WBA just for the lols he would give us. He is tactically very sharp. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Can everyone calm down please. If he leaves I’d wish him well and thank him for what he’s done for us. All this nonsense about being disgusted and him letting us down is frankly pathetic. Get a grip people. [Post edited 20 May 2024 21:23]

seems an absolute stand up bloke personally but im left thinking really.....? luton played in the champ & this year in the prem (albeit no expectation to stay up) awful football proper throw back stuff, cant say i fancy either watching that or it being any measure for success in the prem

Aye. I'll be hugely disappointed if he goes but will wish him well. He'll be leaving us in a much better place than when he came in so we have to be grateful for that. I still think he's better off with us though!

we are actually cursed. Record points needed for 2nd i league 1. Record points needed for 2nd in championship. How many promoted teams have had their managers poached 2 weeks later.

I wasn’t referring to you specifically, just adding a comment to the last post. The last 2 years have been so enjoyable, but you can’t blame him wanting a crack with ready made better squads if that’s what he decides to do.

I will always be thankful for what he did for us. I'd even understand why he decides to move on, if he does, considering how Kompany and Edwards' stocks have sunk compared to last May. That doesn't mean I'll like him for it, or see Brighton as a second team who I'd want to do well. Indeed, as someone who has liked seeing them do well, I'd start wishing they'd gone the way of Bury when they were in financial trouble.

Of course there is the possibility Kieran will string along as many Premier League clubs for as long as possible this summer, to cause maximum disruption to the opposition.

Have you ever watched those teams that are managed by the guys you have mentioned? Christ, that's probably the worst shortlist a premier league club could have!

That's exactly it. If he gets offered a chance to progress his career now, he'd be a fool not to take it. Slightly different circumstances, but Liam Manning is a case in point. After his successful season with MK he turned down offers of European football from abroad to stay at MK. The next season he ended up sacked, and has probably lost that calibre of opportunity for the foreseeable future. Allegedly it's understood in management that one successful season/employment will see you right for your next four managerial roles. If I was in KMc's shoes, a move to an established Premier League side would be too good to turn down.

How could it NOT taint his legacy? Getting us to play at a level we've not reached in for over two decades and disappearing into the sunset without even giving it a go. I'm not talking about booing him or anything, but he'll never have that special relationship he could've had with the club like a Robson or Burley. I can't believe we're even having to discuss this. I was adamant winning promotion was going to quash all of this and allow us to focus on building for stabilising in the Prem. Now, Kieran's going to leave us high and dry before our toughest season in a generation.

He's given me and many others the best two years of our lives as Town fans. I'll be gutted if he leaves but to blame him for being disloyal is absurd. It's a two way street - if he was terrible we'd have got rid at the drop of a hat. Was anybody talking about how we should show loyalty to Hurst or Keane when they were sacked? He's probably turned down approaches before so it's hardly the first time he could've jumped ship either. I'll be extremely disappointed if McKenna doesn't manage us in the Prem, but even more so if fans give him pelters at Portman Road on top of that.

We showed wayyyy too much loyalty to both of those managers, actually.

We haven’t been in the top flight for 22 years. McKenna took us from 11th in league one to the Premier league in two full seasons. He’ll always be a club legend.

Not for me. Not a legend. Keep us up in the Prem, then you deserve that tag. I fear it'll be like the Norwich-Lambert relationship if this does come to pass.
