Anyone got any tips?

Sort of started yesterday and already fed up l, haven’t had bread, a chocolate bar or packet of crisps for two days

Trying to stay off all of the above plus sweet and savoury pastries, sweets and full fat drinks etc.

Trying to make small changes and better options… a bowl of cereal in the morning instead of a Greggs! A couple of boiled eggs instead of a pasty mid morning and some fruit in the afternoon instead of a packet of crisps.

Anyone have any good substitutes or healthy food stuff that are actually tasty?

I like doing salad bowls with lots a different bits in which you can change every day. The napolina 5 bean salad in really good to have to add

I eat lots of fruit instead of choc bars

Nuts/nut bars and a good substitute snack

Cook fresh white fish (plaice, sole , brill) very healthy and nourishing

Had a chicken pasta salad for lunch and a chicken salad just now for dinner

Don’t mind a bit of fish, but it’s usually covered in batter, suppose could have that over a salad as well.

Will look for some nut bars, trouble is a lot of them still have lots of sugar in!

I have no idea why people cut out bread. Obviously don't eat wonder bread but there's nothing wrong with proper wholemeal bread.

Get some decent spices to liven your food up.

Meal prep if you have time.

Plan meals around healthy foods you actually like. Sounds obvious but you have to enjoy your meals.

There is a good argument that staying off everything nice is, in the end, counter productive, unless you are absolutely focussed and dedicated on something like being an athlete etc.

Best way to put on weight is deprive yourself of everything nice for a week and then stuff yourself because its miserable.

Nothing wrong with bread. Especially wholemeal.

Bread is BAAAAD apparently. And I usually eat a lot of it, the white stuff, only ever have brown bread when it comes in a Tesco meal deal sandwich.

Meal prep would be ideal, would have to do it on a Sunday but can’t really cook.

Always say if I were rich I’d be slim and healthy as I’d have a chef…how long until the Euromillions draw tonight…?

Swap the chocolate for a cereal bar and the crisps for lentil chips.

Its not. Its fine. Like everything else. In moderation.

Cut out everything you enjoy, get miserable, then eat a loaf and two packets of digestives in about 7 days when you have had enough....

Nearly everyone when you say you want to eat healthy says stay off bread!

But like redrick says in moderation it’s probably ok? I’d have a sandwich for lunch then have two burgers up at McDs in the evening on a Friday for example.

Ignore them.

There is nothing wrong with wholemeal bread.

Pretty much every argument against bread has been debunked.

Wholemeal bread provides vitamins, minerals, fibre and other good things. Low carbers/paleo diet people have a lot to answer for.

Do you have any recommendations for a nice one?

I will try it, but will still try and keep consumption down from my normal level.

I like this. It's not perfect and it's still processed but it's a decent one IMO.

Plus two slices = 8g of fibre which the vast majority of people don't get enough of.

Even if you limit yourself to two slices a day it opens up so many more quick and easy breakfasts/lunches/snacks.

Next time someone says avoid bread, ask them why. They will probably just say the carbs. At that point you can roll your eyes and walk away.

Track your calories using something like Nutracheck (it’s my preferred app, ease of use, recipes, etc)

I made an excel spreadsheet for MarkTWTD

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/wwxd06jrxjqcbma4elftx/PPL.xlsx?rlkey=y0n0drwcom2d

It has a calorie calculator in it, including different protocols (carb cycling etc).

Look at meal prepping. Scott Baptie has some superb recipes.

https://www.foodforfitness.co.uk/

He has plenty on Instagram and YouTube

Otherwise you just need to remember that results come pretty slowly for most people. But they do come.

Don't snack. Snacks are generally calorific.

Eat at 3 regimented meals each day.

Don't skip breakfast, ever.

Fish is lean, pretty cheap and nearly always better than meat.

I run a lot so can't support your bread stance but understand it if you are a bit less active.

It all comes down to your reason .

Do you want to lose weight?
Do you want to eat less processed food?
Once you establish the reason why, then you go for the what do I currently eat?
Why do I eat what I do, convenience?
Habit? Simplicity?

Then look at what you do other than eat; work, exercise?
When do you eat, what time, is it boredom that causes snacking?
Then look at portion sizes

Remember there is NO quick fix, if you are overweight you did not become overweight overnight, you became overweight overtime.

To lose weight is all down to less calories in, more calories out.

Once you have reviewed yourself and see where you have been, then see where you want to go and how to get there.

Eating healthily does not have to be onerous, just a slow change of habits, breaking old ones and creating new ones

All very generic as cannot be specific without more info.

Do you want to lose weight?
Yes. Want to lose a bit and feel a bit healthier.

Do you want to eat less processed food?
Probably

What do I currently eat?
Too much sugary sh!t, takeaways and other stuff mentioned in OP.

Why do I eat what I do, convenience?
Habit? Simplicity?
All of the above

Then look at what you do other than eat; work, exercise?
Eat a lot at work, on the road it’s easy to eat sh!te and usually cheaper!

When do you eat, what time, is it boredom that causes snacking?
Pretty good with times usually, I’m up at 5 in the week, and maybe have breakfast around 7/8 once I get going, can’t eat as soon as I get up.

Then look at portion sizes…
Way bigger than they have to be. I managed to eat 8 sausages one dinner time last week 5 on me plate with mash and veg, 3 whilst Saïd plate warmed up.

Why?

Energy and concentration. You could go like 16-18 hours without eating if you skip it. This means you appetite and metabolism can't stay regulated. This can lead to overeating later in the day, that affects sleep.

Most studies suggest those who regularly eat breakfast are of lower weight than those who skip it.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Blimey the first thing that came up on that was a load of exercises, never said anything about that

With my job I can do a bit of walking per day if I want, but sometimes laziness gets the better of me. Did do 2.5 miles one day the other week.

its easy carbs & gluten though, which means its easy weight loss or gain depending on how you approach eating it, and some of the cheap supermarket bread isnt great for you.

but the reality is just eat smaller portions of stuff, its not about avoiding unhealthy food, no chip diets or anything, just eat less of everything, or eat in moderation.
