Everybodies contracts are signed until the end of June. Hence July 1st is the first day to start a new. I would think all the paperwork is actually done and dusted, but from a continuity point of view July 1st is new contract day. |

Our first signing of the Summer, smashing our transfer record, and bringing a crowd favourite back to the club. They will want to make a bit of a splash of it, so need all the PR and social media people at work to do so, which makes a weekend announcement difficult. |  |

You'll notice that a lot of clubs have not announced much at this point, which is due to contracts not running out until the end of June and then the new FPR window starting the day after. I suspect a lot of clubs have paperwork drafted up and will rubber stamp it tomorrow so that the financials don't reflect in the wrong window. So, I suspect clubs don't announce anything until it is rubber stamped as to avoid having their pants pulled down if something goes wrong with the transfer on the 13th hour.
It would kind of be like Labour announcing they've won the general election now - all things point to that as a certain outcome, but the fat lady hasn't quite started singing. She could yet have a ham sandwich accident before July the 4th, unlikely as it may be. [Post edited 30 Jun 2024 10:33]

Surely the contracts simply reflect the dates for the accounts/FPR etc. regardless of when you actually announce it? If the contract technically starts tomorrow I don't see why announcing it this weekend would make much of a difference.

FFP. Announced prior to tomorrow any purchase will count towards the last 3 years. Tomorrow it will be refreshed. Works both ways in terms of FFP, might need to balance the books for sales, but also we might not want a 20m purchase on those books. Makes sense to me. |  | | |

I do think that some of our fan base are a little needy in the age of 24/7 online news.
Football is an entertainment industry and the club will know the optimum time to announce the signings with all the fanfare and marketing that goes with it. The weekend is not that time.
We also saw with the McKenna contract renewal that the press announced it as a done deal and the signing would be “tomorrow”. Then when tomorrow came it was going to be “tomorrow” again. Builds up a wee bit of excitement and nerves. |  |

A date will have been settled on. That is a lot of money that will need to be signed off by numerous people at the same time. Its not like transfer day when you know they will all be able and ready. I would imagine a quick email has gone around and everyone has that date in their diary. Not to mention all the press, graphics, socials that all need setting up in advance.

No it doesn't and no it won't. Our shirts sell in record amounts and will do again, regardless of Omari wearing it. And also, those in the know say the shirt isn't being released tomorrow, so that would be another day waiting (at least) if we were waiting for that. |
