Why has the purchase of Omari still not been officially announced? 08:01 - Jun 30 with 10009 views | The_Flashing_Smile | It's Sunday now and still nothing, surely the medical's been completed?! Those in the know are saying it's not to coincide with the new kit launch, so why is it taking so long? You'd think Ashton would be wanting to shout this from the rooftops!

I'm perfectly relaxed and I haven't remotely suggested Ashton and the crew don't know what they are doing. Are some of you unable to read what is actually written?

Why has the purchase of Omari still not been officially announced? on 08:52 - Jun 30 by Pinewoodblue | Presumably last seasons accounts couldn’t take the hit. |
This or Chelsea have already fulfilled their PSR commitments with prior sales, and so want/need to record Omari's profit in their 24/25 accounts. There are two possible reasons why they would. Domestically, it would enable them to spend more in 26/27, if PSR and 3-year cycles are still relevant by then. More pressingly, clubs who qualify for European competitions need to meet UEFA's more stringent spending rules. Chelsea may spend 80% of revenue on player/coach stuff in 24/25, down from 90% in 23/24.

Why has the purchase of Omari still not been officially announced? on 11:17 - Jun 30 by The_Flashing_Smile | As I've said a couple of times, when you announce it has nothing to do with when it goes into the accounts. |
I know what you're saying and we all want the announcement to be made. However, if the contract begins tomorrow (as in the contract will be "signed" tomorrow) an announcement today would surely be premature? Ie, along the lines of "Town are pleased to announce that Omari will be joining the club permanently tomorrow. If he doesn't kick the bucket beforehand." Doesn't have the same sort of ring as "He has signed a contract for X years" and the usual plaudits.

I do wonder if that is the underlying fear for some, but really it would be much easier to have a hand shandy thinking about Celine Dion than to abate certain fears in some of the supporter base.

It's unlikely both clubs (but particularly Chelsea) would let administrative delays decide the financial year in which signings take place, as this stuff matters these days. If there was an unfortunate hold-up of this ilk then I imagine both clubs would still release official announcements today.

Depends what the truths are though, to some chelsea have no reason to push for sales in June, so if that is true then theres no panic about getting the paperwork signed. It's not an issue and i don't think it's any concern, just more that it's being dealt with and will come to fruition naturally.

The other possibly far fetched possibility is that Town want to announce it at the same time as the Kit launch - get a big surge on shirt sales with Omari's name on it

Clubs are much more dialled in and strategic than that IMO but agree with the underlying sentiment of 'all in good time' fellow fans.

BBC just said on the wireless deals can be completed today but not officially registered until tomorrow because today is a non working day at the FA/PL. However the date the paperwork is signed is accepted by the FA/PL. So the offical announcement maybe tomorrow but if the paperwork is dated today then it's included in the sustainability financial year that ends on June 30th. Which they followed with... this is why mosts clubs aren't doing the old formal welcome and here is Clarence holding up the shirt, as they will want to make sure the FA/PL accept the paperwork etc

Why has the purchase of Omari still not been officially announced? on 10:37 - Jun 30 by The_Flashing_Smile | That's probably the nearest to the truth of the suggestions I've seen. All the little films they make these days, probably takes a bit of work/editing etc. I can't think of a better reason TBH. |
I think the way you framed the question sounds like you expect to be told - like a bit of entitles fan who expects to be told everything whenever they want to know. I get now that you didn’t mean it like that, but from the sounds of things I wasn’t the only one who made that assumption. Bottom line is that none of us know - which actually makes it a bit of a non question.

Nope, wasn't framing it like that at all. In fact anyone who knows me knows that 'patience is a virtue' is something I advocate in football... and had that phrase as my signature for years. I wonder if some are projecting... or they've seen wailing on twitter or something and assumed this was more of the same. Not really my fault if people are doing that. And no, I don't think it's a non-question as there are often people ITK on here... and some people have offered some decent suggestions too. Given the signing was confirmed on Friday I think it's reasonable to ask why it hasn't been officially announced now it's 2 days later.

Cheers good knowledge, didn't realise they were a 6-day organisation. Will be interesting (for nerds like me!) to see which year's accounts it slots into. If last year's it's early indication that we had lots of FFP wiggle room last season after all. [Post edited 30 Jun 2024 15:37]

99.99999% it has to be in 2023/24 accounts, finishing today. For sure that’s what Chelsea would have wanted and for us I doubt we’d have agreed to that unless we had the headroom, remembering it’s amortised, so £xx million divided by x year contract length. So for ease of calculation £20m x 4 years will be a £5m hit to our 23/24 accounts. Wages won’t count in 23/24 as they’ll start tomorrow.

It wouldn't surprise me Flash if everything was done but Ashton and Chelsea were until just now still negotiating and finalising the deal, afterall was it Gray that had a medical but then leeds pulled out of the deal and now he's going to spurs.

That's it, £5M+ of wiggle room would show we were in a healthy position last season despite clearly pushing in January. Chelsea will definitely want it concluded today if they remain behind PSR, but will want it tomorrow if they've already sorted themselves with other sales. For them it's very much a case of doing just enough each season to remain compliant, no benefit in 'overdoing it' when they want as big a budget as possible to play with in 24/25 and so on.

Yeah looks like it, finer minor details. I'm genuinely surprised at the grief I've got for asking the question though. Seems like it was a fair one to ask. Usually after journalists announce a deal it comes out officially later that day or the next, I guess this is such a big deal that it's taken a bit longer to iron all the bits and bobs out, which is fair enough.
