Developments inside the ground - Distant picture 18:20 - Jul 4 with 6679 viewstommcd

A fuzzy picture (dirty window coupled with not-great phone camera) showing a few developments inside the ground.

Block X in the midst of being converted from 4 rows to 6.

New Executive Lounges finally have a floor (pretty sure they didn't last week).

Press box taking shape.

I wanna know why they painted all the stairwells black. Looks weird.

I like the paintwork on the steps though, white instead of that manky yellow.

Matches the approach followed in the Cobbold redecoration - which I think looks more modern and dare I say ‘classy’

I assume it’s so the stands don’t punch out too much in game footage?

But surely much of the blackout areas will covered in advertising signs.

Spoke to the club about the two new executive lounges on 18:42 - Jul 4 with 5696 viewsunstableblue

There are two executive lounge each with double the footprint of an individual box going in at the North Stand end of the executive box tier in the Pioneer.

The message I got that these were to increase the capacity of on day match hospitality packages… and the meal, lounge access and dedicated seating in front would be offered on a match by match basis… rather than as a full season package, as had been referenced.

Where on that picture are the new TV camera positions, I thought I read just above the directors box. So they'll be just in front of the press area?

Think it's done. Looks like it's under the security hut, with the windows overlooking the family enclosure.

Wish they would replace the old asbestos panel roof with something more modern just really dates the whole stadium

Similar view to the one I had first time I saw a bit of a live football match.

I must have been about 6 and we'd had a family trip into Ipswich and had parked on the top floor of car park that was in the cattle market.

The East Stand was lower then, and there was a gap at the end by the churchmans.

Town were playing Spurs, I think David Best was in goal in a red jersey at the Churchmans end. We watched for about 10 minutes catching a glimpse whenever Spurs attacked.

Don't boil a kettle on a boat.

Noticed this morning that they've taken down the ITFC lettering on outside of Cobbold stand. The lettering that Ashton said his wife first noticed when they came down and that he got used as the font for all the club's promotional material etc.

You can just about see the outline of where it was on that photo.

Being cleaned do we think? Or something else?

I thought today that although I know it has to happen, will miss the Cobbold when it goes. The ground has such character and a big part of that is the age of different parts of it. Hope they try and keep that in some way and it's not a total spaceship style affair.

Hope he isn't binning it.

Some things need to move with the times. But that writing and font imo needs to remain forever with town.

Oh yes, think you might be right. But I think initially it was the lettering on the outside that he talked about his wife noticing. Here's what he said:

Just look at it (gestures around the stadium). A couple of weeks ago, myself and my family drove down one evening. It was a good three hour drive, and we drove to the back of the Cobbold Stand.

"There was literally a lump in our throats, just looking at the size of the stand, and the tradition, the font of the writing on the stand. My other half said to me 'Whatever you do, don't get rid of that of that font on that stand, that means something.'

"When you walk around the club, you see it, you feel it. I was 16 years at West Brom and I always thought that was a club which carried a huge tradition with it, but walking around this place this morning, my word. The memorabilia, the tradition, the history, the success that this football club's had - it's just too big an opportunity to turn down, to help be part of turning this around and taking it back to where we think it genuinely belongs."

Yeah been gone a few weeks, a long with the lettering and badge on the outside of the SAR stand, must be some new ones coming, don’t think they’d scrap that.

Cheers. Hope they keep it the same when they put the new one up on the Cobbold. For all its limitations, have a Cobbold soft spot.
