Boring was Jay Tabb and Giles Coke mate.

Coke and tabs are the only thing getting me through this summer. I picked a hell of a transfer period to give up mainlining horse.

think the hull owner agrees he thinks thier coming here

These are direct quotes

Clearly the Hull owner has accepted our offer for a package for both, they both want to leave for the Premiership and it seems Town, and there is a real urgency for the deal to go through to balance Hull’s books and so they have some money left over to fund some much needed transfers ahead of their own pre-season in Turkey.

Our own pre-season I believe starts Saturday so McKenna will want these guys in the building this week.

Clearly the double deal is a preference, and we have the firm approved deal. But as we all think it is Philogene with all options and the deal can be split.

Exciting. But Palace are in need of Philogene’s attributes, and unlike Dyche and financially challenged Everton, Palace are an Antarctica option for a London raised player.

McKenna and our project need to be the differentiator.

£40m plus add ons? It seems to have gone up a bit. That would be a total transfer spend of £60m on 4 players. If this turns out to be the case Ashton wasn't lying about going for it.

Feels like too much to me. 30-35m for both seemed about right. At the quoted figures they're being valued at the same or equal to Omari, but 3 years older.

Philogene is just as good as Omari.

As for Greaves, 1/2 good seasons in the PL would see him worth £60-£70m (English and left-footed CB).

Greaves excites me greatly and I suspect you're right.

Also having both Hutch and Philogene takes the pressure of the search for a marquee striker a little, I think.

Just reading the runes on what I hear and what's reported. The Athletic report may well be a bit behind the times, that was reported yesterday or the night before but was dismissed by the Hull paper, who are evidently speaking to the owner.

Are your sources hearing it's close or are you just reporting the reports that its close?

Interesting. Hadn’t actually thought of it that way and some canny tactics by Ashton.

Town have done that before. The Pigott move to Portsmouth wasn't rubberstamped until the Harness deal was done.

£16m doesn't make a lot of logical sense if we are at £35m for the pair.

Disagree re:Omari. Philogene is certainly flashier, Omari is also 2 years younger.

I wonder if we are offering a bit of a 'jiggery pokery' benefit (for want of a better phrase) in the double deal, i.e can manipulate the numbers a bit in a way that suits Hull in terms of sell on clause to Villa and/or FFP with Greaves being pure profit for FFP.

The first bit could be right in theory (albeit dodgy). But it wouldn’t make any difference for FFP - the profit on the two players would be the total transfer fee less whatever amortised remaining cost for the two (nothing for Greaves plus the bulk of the £5m they paid Villa for Philogene). So more profit on one is simply balanced out by less on the other.
This thing about home grown players being a special case for FFP is a bit misquoted. It’s simply that no fee was paid. Martin Samuel in the Times got it wrong too when talking about Jarred Branthwaite and how the fact he played a few games for Carlisle put him in a totally different category to if he was home grown. All it means is that Everton would have to deduct a small amount from the income to account for whatever’s left of his fee for Carlisle. But if they’re selling him for £70m the difference is peanuts.
