Why is everyone £20m. Unless they are free. Is that an asking price or a MA max amount willing to pay.
| |
Delap... on 13:41 - Jul 9 with 3421 views | urbanpenguin | These numbers are all a bit wild. If all as reported it's totallying about £75m for the happened and potential transfers. I suspect that they are loaded a bit differently, that this may be something like £20m IF all the addons come to fruition - International, staying up, goal tally, sell on etc etc) and that Ashton is being a bit canny and they are all a bit lower than reported for initial outlay - financial regs are so tight for us there must be quite a lot of spreadsheet formula action.

Happy with the fees and young talent regarding Hutch, Philogene and Greaves. But 20m for Delap i think is a bit bonkers I'd much rather have a proven PL goalscorer for that price and i'm sure one can be found for half that price at around the 30yo age bracket. We desperately need some PL experience and goals. Delap just isn't that for me. I'm probably very wrong and trust Mceknna of course but just my personal opinion.

Always thought we need to spend minimum of £100m just for a bare bones 1st team. We need to get to the point where every squad member is Premier League capable.

Tend to agree. Although I do think that there's quality there and he's a good age to develop under the right coach. Also think a stable environment will do him the world of good. Can't be easy going out on loan every season.

I did say I'd been told we were going to spend £100m+ this window. £18m Hutchinson £38m Greaves/Philogene £15m Delap £0 Johnson £71m outlay to date, leaving: £15m+ - Top centre mid? £10m - First choice keeper? £0 - Another centre mid on a free? (poss with PL experience?) Loan #1 - Striker Loan #2 - Back-up LB Job done.
Delap... on 13:55 - Jul 9 with 2810 views | Pinewoodblue | The best thing about this transfer window is the timing of the signings, all nice and early so time to gel pre-season. Only regret…..no GK through the door yet but …..you never know.

Che Adams on a free makes a lot of sense in this context. Can't see us spending another fee on a striker but need an experienced option in there. Probably another £20-£25m to spend on a CM and GK. The rest frees/loans.

Yes, good point. Adams on a free would enable us to use the loan spot on either a top CB or a promising CM from PL or Europe.

Bearing in mind that spend is actually something more like £20m - £30m per season over three or four years. So long as we don't have to keep spending big every window. That's when things become problematic.

If he'd scored 20 goals in the Championship last season, you could add £10-£15m to his transfer fee this summer.

Yes that's exactly right. If you can make it work and stay up, £25m-£30m amortised per year to develop a core of mightily talented English young players feels absolute peanuts in the grand scheme of things.

And we only need one of them to really 'bang' and the sale covers the cost of all the others.

100%. Imagine Delap scores 12-15 goals next season... You'd be looking at United or City sniffing around for £75m no doubt. Rinse and repeat! And even in worst case scenario, you make your money back on Delap if we're relegated (or he spearheads our Champ attack to get an instant return).

I don’t think we’ll get another CM, not for a fee anyway without big money going out. Sheaf and Downes seem to have been little more than enquiries. Think we are looking at a keeper, a couple of frees and a loan with a commitment to buy next year

A proper CM is absolutely imperative. Our most important signing now. Imagine that is where the bulk of our remaining money goes.
