For anyone who thinks that they might need one, but is anxious about the process, I just wanted to say don’t be. I’m an absolute wuss with pain, easily anxious/panicky, and the idea of someone sticking something down my throat/ up my arse is not a nice one.
It’s absolutely fine. The worst pain was the cannula going in, and the worst feeling in general was the bowel prep they give you the night before to clean your bowels. The sedation works a treat, even if you are a significant drinker or user of other substances.
So yeah, I don’t know who needs to hear this but just don’t worry, get it done, you’ll feel happier that you have.

It sounds like they have had a good look at you from all angles.... hope it is nothing serious and you are recovering from the intrusions
I had colonoscopy a few years ago, as you say the actual event was a little bit undignified and not really anything more than that....certainly nothing to worry about.
The most dramatic part was the "cleansing fluids" given to you to drink for a couple of days beforehand. The results were.....dramatic
The probe makes its way onwards and upwards until it reaches a chamber at the very end....an area known as the Seccumb, sometimes spelled Cecum
If you watch the real-time screen very closly it is just possible to see a small tubby Welshman with curly hair singing

I've had a cough for the last 8 months and was booked for a Gastroscopy on Friday to eliminate some reasons why I had this infection. Circumstances meant it had to be postponed. It's reassuring that it's not a big deal but getting the examination booked has been the hard part.
Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?
Glad yours went well and I wouldn't discourage anyone from getting checked out.
However, it's not always straightforward. I was unable to have sedation and the process was absolutely awful. Because of my situation it was extremely painful and the doctor had to stop several times before he could complete the procedures.
I'd be extremely reluctant to have another.

I have a hiatus hernia and have had a couple of the throat ones.
I had the sedation thing on the first one and I really struggled, the quack admitted it was a "Difficult procedure"
On the second one I never had any sedation and I breezed through it.
Each to their own I suppose.

I had a colonoscopy as part of a screening programme some years ago. No sedation - hardly the best experience I’ve ever had. I was told afterwards though that I was wise to do it. Bowel cancer is a silent killer, apparently. By the time symptoms show, you are in a world of trouble.

After a waterworks infection a few weeks ago I had to get the camera in the bladder treatment recently.
Only one way that goes in. No sedation either.
As uncomfortable as that was, I couldn’t help but think of the medical staff doing it. All day long every working day. Who decides that’s the specialism you want to pursue? S’pose it’s just as well someone does.

I had two liters of the 'cleansing fluid' the previous night, first time I peed out my ass!
On the positive side the surgeon said my insides were 'very clean'.
Definitely the unpleasantpart of the process but needed to be done.

I had a gastroscopy with sedation, which is apparently supposed to make you retrospectively forget the process (the sedative is basically Rohypnol). It didn't work on me. I remember every minute detail of the procedure, and when I was wheeled into recovery to 'sleep off' the sedative. I just laid there wide awake.
It's not a nice procedure by any stretch. I'd hate to go through it again, but I would do it again, rather than have some serious condition go undetected.
As a woman, I've had much more painful, invasive procedures that I wouldn't chose to experience again, but I'd never let it stop me from doing so if needed!
Never neglect your health due to fear of a procedure! It's not worth it!

I had to have a gastroscopy a couple of months ago. My GP had found a lump when examining my chest as I had acid reflux and heartburn. She recommended a gastroscopy and when I looked at my NHS app it said I was being tested for cancer.
I panicked for the next month while waiting for the test. The test itself was awful. I was kept waiting after the sedation which had worn off by the time I was taken to have it done.
I asked for it to be by nose rather than throat. It was very painful!
The pain didn’t matter though as I was told there was no cancer but just a stomach infection which could be treated with antibiotics.

Sorry to hear that, but glad the result was, like mine, clear.
I had the same experience, receiving a letter from my local hospital saying I was on the ‘suspected cancer pathway’. No explanation or anything. I looked up the details and less than 10% of people on that pathway actually have cancer. But i found that out from the cancer charity MacMillan. It would’ve been nice if I’d got the same kind of context from my GP or local hospital before they dropped that bomb.
Anyway, glad you’re well.

Infection, for 8 months?
Your doctor not heard of antibiotics?
If you are a smoker, have you had X-rays?

I had a colonoscopy in Bangkok recently. I’ve now had 3. Bangkok was very good but a bit humiliating. Every time I went to the bathroom, I had to inform a young nurse so she could watch and photograph the evidence!

It's bloomin' hard getting a GP appointment with my doctors surgery. When I'd mentioned I'd had a cough for about 4 months I had an X-ray which showed a patch on one of my lungs. I was prescribed penicillin. I had a 2nd X-Ray and it was clear.
So, when I eventually secured another appointment after being repeatedly told "No available appointments" it had been another 4 months since the first appointment.
"Hi Doc, thanks for the X-Ray and it's great knowing I haven't got lung cancer but I've still got the cough which, if you remember, is why I came to see you."
That was 2 weeks ago. I've been put on the fast track cancer screening program. I was given Friday 4:00pm at a Private Endoscopy clinic but they cancelled as there was no consultant available.
I gave up smoking Xmas 2021.
