Personally think there should be a hard cap on the number of players you can own as well as register. The hard cap should exist at academy age group level as well as the senior men's group.
Would need to have some flex for long term injuries, development as well but they need to do something to stop the talent hoarding that goes on. | |

I think it is a deliberate plan to buy players with potential so that if they do develop they have got them in cheaper (and maybe counting as home grown) and any losses are mitigated by selling on those who don't quite make it (e.g. Hutchinson). I am sure it is financially astute.
What would be funny, though, would be a change in the rules so that clubs can only loan out a limited number of players over the age of 21. It would be like that moment you have just spent all your money building hotels and houses in Monopoly only to land on "you are assessed for street repairs"! [Post edited 12 Aug 2024 10:20]

Marc Guiu is an 18 year old, 6'3 striker who signed from Barca. He's played in the pre-season games and done very well according to fans, but expected to be loaned out. |  |

Also highlights the lunacy of having the transfer window open for 2 weeks after the season has started. Chelsea can just acquire players to prevent other teams buying them, then keep them until the 31st August giving themselves a 3 match head start until other teams can finalise their squads. Clubs like ours where we only have about 20 players that we want to keep in the PL squad, whilst they have 56. Hardly a level playing field. But then, the PL governs itself, and doesn't even apply the mild rules it says are in place. If ever there was a need for a regulator this is it.
