What do the board's financial experts make of it? The fact that Delia and Wynn Jones aren't receiving any money seems a bit of a weird one, especially given their previous stance regarding selling the club. Does the manner of the buy-out (loans being converted into shares) suggest that there's an element of a hostile takeover to it? Or is this sort of thing fairly normal?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Normal on the face of it but stuff like this only tends to happen with businesses not performing well (but we won't know until later on).

The yanks have given Delia (the club) effectively a £60m loan (which they have benefited from) and then will agree to convert it to shareholding. I assume Delia and Co would have majority sign off so it allows them to step away without this loan over their necks, keeps the club running without paying loan interest and all parties are happy. Effectively it's valuing £60m for their share.

I am sure they have made enough money over the years in terms of divies and salaries maybe. Don't care enough about the budgies to look mind.

Seems strange to ‘gift’ control to this total outsider after all these years running the club, instead of turning their half of the shares into a fan owned German-style model. That surely would have secured a better legacy and deal for the football club as a whole. But I’m no accountant nor budgie.

I’d be more inclined to say it’s the Smiths cutting and running, finally.

So the Americanhis converting existing loans into equity, but putting no new money in(at this stage). It clears a load of debt, but the next phase will be telling - will more investment be forthcoming?

Regardless of our thoughts on Norwich/Delia, it is sad that the days of clubs being owned and bankrolled by people that have some association with the team or place are gone.

Lots of American investors seemingly betting on the value of football in England increasing and therefore the clubs within it also being worth more - I'm not sure I believe the maths at even the very top level, but regardless of that there will be some teams that miss the boat and be left with this debt heavy model that won't be fun when revenues aren't increasing.

Will be interesting how it goes.

Whilst she was getting on she did run the club with good intentions. So how will the new owners do. As we know sometimes it works sometimes it's the worse thing that can happen.

a niche perspective

I think that's a very good point tbf.

Why on earth would she want the stress of trying to keep a club afloat when the books are looking increasingly stacked against. She's done well by them for decades now and I'm sure most norwich fans want her to step down (and have done for a while).

Whilst I dont profess to understand accounts, she does appear to have literally handed the reigns of the club over (cheaply?)and gone quite meekly to the back bench.

As someone else has already alluded too, it'll be interesting to see how much these investors will actually put into that club.

However I fully expect old Trunky to remain strangely silent, rather than trudge out his tired old "franchise" nonsense.

If Smith and Jones are equal shareholders with the Americans, the Americans can reasonably ask them to match any investment they make in the club; no more parachute payments means digging deeper into the pockets - if Delia can't or won't do that, then not unreasonable for the Americans to have their stake in the club increased to reflect that...

Oh, he's already had his two-penneth-worth, committed libel, and had his posts deleted.

Such a shame, as he normally has such a rational and balanced view on these sorts of things.

Looks like they have a new director onboard too a Richard Ressler, worth a few billion acc to them.
Agree with poster who said its a shame that real fans dont own clubs anymore, more & more foreign owners who dont have the same connection as us fans.
