Empty seats in the away end but otherwise I couldn't see many in the home end other than one or two dotted about. But I suppose they soon add up across a an entire stadium of 30,000.

There was far less media there today than for Liverpool but those seats cannot be sold to fans despite them included in the attendance count.

It is utter insanity that press box seats are included in the capacity. I can’t accept it.

So where were the 500 empty seats??? (n/t) on 08:14 - Sep 1 with 4927 views | Bluefarrier | There were 2500 away fans, unlike the Liverpool game where they brought 3000 fans, so that’s where the 500 fans were missing.
So where were the 500 empty seats??? (n/t) on 10:24 - Sep 1 with 4719 views | Vegtablue | There were about 10 tickets available in the home areas I'm told shortly before KO - good on the club for allowing such late returns really. Fulham sold out much like we did. Maybe there were a few late returns there. From memory the attendance announcement may have said 2953 away fans, which may be the maximum - we don't need to offer 3000 on the dot. The real reason is as mentioned above - press and other filler. Ashton has stated before his mission of returning PR to 30K capacity. This season we've been creative and very inclusive with our attendance consideration. Wouldn't shock me if we're even counting the players. I thought it was weird that we'd managed to increase capacity despite all the summer changes. Now we know we haven't in a meaningful sense for fans lol. No moan lol but it's a bit silly, and gives the impression that we only fill our ground when the big boys come to town! Edit: this answer likely displays my lack of understanding in how the attendance is now counted at PR. There definitely weren't more than 20 tickets available to buy once late returns had been processed on the day, it really was one or two seats in a handful of blocks around the stadium. Fulham also sold out the away end quickly. Apparently the club doesn't use tickets sold to count attendance though and hasn't for some time, so 450-500 purchasers not making the game would account for the discrepancy (or a combination of this and vacant media seats). I don't think that this is new or that we're the only club who include them - believe it's fairly standard practice. I guess it's the difference between 'attending' the game and 'paying for a ticket for a game. Would imagine all the complimentary player tickets, etc are also included in attendance figures.

The comps make slightly more sense if they’re included as they’re actual seats. But nobody can buy a seat next to Brenner in the press box.

Oh I wish that was an option though. Just sat right next to Brenner enjoying his comms. They should tots make that a ticket for purchase. Just a single one.

I thought they announced 2552 at the game but I see the club report says 2952. There was 1 empty seat right in front of me. I expect there were quite a few singles dotted around but I am surprised that would add up to 450 in total. If they weren't single seats I am sure they would have sold.

The 500 empty seats works out at something like 1.6% of the capacity so you really only need the singles dotted around here and there and it soon adds up. There are 40 different seating areas (some of which are quite a bit bigger than others) so that averages 12.5 per area which I suspect most of us wouldn't really notice too much if they were spread out.

I couldn’t go as still in the US, so put mine and the boys ticket up on resale. Got notified that mine had sold, but not his, which given the demand, I found really odd.

To confirm though, the number of empty seats available to purchase was less than 20 with a few minutes to KO. I'm told it was less than 10 but I can see how someone could miscount by the same number. I believe we record attendance by tickets sold rather than appearance (we certainly used to), while Fulham took a full away end. The only consideration possible I think apart from press / non-fans is that we didn't sell out in hospitality, though I'd be surprised if this was the case. Edit: unless we have switched from tickets sold to counting actual attendance. [Post edited 2 Sep 2024 10:30]

Are we sure that is the case? Anyhow, vacant media seats will not be many enough to make a real dent in attendance figure.

The chap and his boy next to me and 2 more behind were missing. That is B block. A few odd spaces around. I suppose for some it's touch and go as to if they can get there.
