Did anyone else notice that immediately after Villa scored their first there was a stoppage and some of the players went to the sidelines to grab a drink. McKenna immediately went over to Greaves and was slapping him on the back and geeing him up after the mistake. He went on to have a great game. Little things and all that.

Yes. It was noticeable how many of our players did the same with him on the pitch too. He looked really distraught but everyone gave him a gee up and he was right back into it and didn't lose his concentration.

Greaves has looked a hell of a signing since he came in.

It was silly even trying that ball across his own box, but he’s been caught out & learned the hard way not to try it again.

He made a brilliantly timed challenge late on to keep us level too

I'll have to see it again but it looked a crap clearance to me rather than an attempted pass. I thought he just panicked a bit and tried to hoof it, in hindsight he'd have been better off laying it off to Muric to clear.

Was this the mis hit across our penalty area.
I thought at junior level nobody simply hit the ball across our own penalty area, the easiest clearance was out for throw in or at worst a corner.

He made so many spot on clearances and interceptions after that too, he's such a good player for us.

Its just that thing at this level a simple mistake is a goal.

But can't hold it against him, he must have stopped 10 or more chances they had.

I think he was trying to get it to Clarke

I haven’t seen it again but that was my thought too. Looked like he got the pitching wedge out and just topped it rather than trying to be too smart and pick out a teammate. Certainly a lesson in it though, similar to last week where Axel doesn’t clear his lines and then we get undone by a bit of quality.

Either way it was honking defending but he showed good character to react well, made a heck of a tackle in the 2nd half.

If Greaves plays that ball 100 times, 99 of them pass the halfway line.
This one just went wrong and at this level you get punished for it.
Surprised no one has mentioned the immaculate ball into Davis that started the attack for Delap's first.
Class.

No, it was definitely an attempted pass, think it was Clarke in space 40 yards out. It was a really confident, hammered attempt and I'm happy to see it. He either only slightly mis-aimed it, or it was slightly too tough a pass to try. In either case, it was only a smidgeon away, and I love to see us playing that level of football.

I agree, think he tried to clear the ball and just mis hit it. It happens, apart from that one mistake he was immense.

McKenna confirmed to a BBC reporter that it was a clearance (they were using it as an excuse to ask about playing out from the back).

I think too much focus has been on Greaves and too little on the weak effort from Axel (I think) trying to shield it out of play, had his pocket picked and then we're on the back foot.

It was right in front of us, and was definitely a scuffed clearance, and not a pass.

perhaps he lacks confidence in Muric? I certainly don't trust him with the ball at his feet and yes, teams will press us more at this level. Hopefully he will improve with time.

Rogers control given Greaves had leathered it was very impressive even if it ended up in us conceding. The sort of mistake that is sadly punished at this level.

This

it was Ogbene, who literally overran and went past the ball (when he would have been there first) and then got done by the Villa player.

Of course Greaves should have done better, and probably passed to the keeper to clear, but this could have been stopped much earlier in the move.

Seemed like a mis-kick to me rather than actually trying to play that ball.
