Another stadium post 13:07 - Oct 1 with 5282 views | baxterbasics | Reading the comments about FPR just now, I thought this might warrant it's own discussion. Should we be an established Prem team say 3 to 5 years from now, can you foresee the club building a shiny new stadium, maybe away from the Town centre? Would you support or oppose this? Where would be a good location?

Another stadium post on 13:09 - Oct 1 with 4070 views | MattinLondon | Yes I would be opposed to this. Totally opposed, completely and utterly opposed to moving from PR. And I can’t see it happening.

I'll quite likely be done with "elite" football by the time it happened anyway to be honest.

Not beyond the realms of possibility, and I'm sure the club will have an eye on it, but I can't see it happening. Not least because I'm not sure there are any suitable locations left as they have all been developed in recent years. Places like the old sugar beet factory, the remaining ramsomes site by waitrose being two examples. Also, add me to the vehemently opposed group. [Post edited 1 Oct 2024 13:32]

Another stadium post on 13:34 - Oct 1 with 3759 views | Churchman | No I cannot see the club doing that. I’d be strongly opposed to it. The location it’s in now is perfect. So if it was decided to rebuild it, do it on the same site, maybe utilising the old training pitch area in some way. I know old grounds are imperfect but I’d rather try and keep the character of the one we have. Replace the Cobbold, upgrade the West Stand with batter facilities, new roof and a few more seats. Also, relocate the club shop to the old staples area and make better use of the corners at North Stand end. For that area behind Churchmans, a club museum, club shop, boozers, restaurants, fast food, studio for Ed to scribble a few songs and entertain, a mini cinema showing old ITFC matches, bowling alley and a bingo hall. With any spare money, I’d buy Norwich City and recoup the money by selling the training ground. Carrot Road: I’d put a large recycling plant on it and rent out the rest to the Council as a public tip. That’s the green angle covered. ‘On the Tip City, never mind the cat litter’.
Another stadium post on 13:40 - Oct 1 with 3711 views | textbackup | Build one up the speedway and I’ll be happy as pig in sht, 5min walk from my front door. Anywhere else then no. Apart from the alderman road park. If a new build was done on there I’d be cool with it.

Another stadium post on 13:40 - Oct 1 with 3709 views | Steve_M | Nope, a location in walking distance to the station, town centre and much of the town is perfect both for football and other events. For those who don't live in the area, and fans of London clubs or trophy-dodgers, being next to the station is ideal too. Try funnelling 3,000 away fans out of town somewhere in a few old buses.

Didn’t the club look into building a new stadium on the site of the old airport? Or am I making that up?

I think in the days of Sheepshanks that was considered because there were a lot of grants available to build new grounds at the time (e.g. Sunderland’s), but how seriously I’ve absolutely no idea.
Another stadium post on 13:44 - Oct 1 with 3674 views | StochesStotasBlewe | Definitely not. Can be a bit of pain in the arse getting away after matches sometimes, but being close to the station, plenty of pubs and eateries within 15 minutes or so currently, it’s a great location for a football stadium. Would be absolutely amazed if we were to ever move from Portman Road to be honest.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

I thought I was misremembering. A Sunderland fan told me that the Stadium of light was built in ten months which seems ridiculously quick.

If a new Cobbold stand is going to cost 100million then an entire new stadium would be 500m - 700m. I know Ashton and the owners are ambitious but I don’t see any universe where it happens.

Yes, my mackem mates mentioned that when I met up with them in York last week. They also said its build on old mine workings and nobody has any idea where the tunnels are. They reckon one day when the crowd goes up for a goal the whole lot could disappear down a big hole.

An out of town stadium would completely kill off what is left of the town centre, especially the pubs. Ashton has always said how good it is to have a town centre location for the local economy etc. [Post edited 1 Oct 2024 14:42]

Another stadium post on 14:16 - Oct 1 with 3360 views | IndependentlyBlue | In answer to the three questions posed: No, and certainly not away from the present site. Hell no l wouldn’t support a move. Not applicable - see previous answers. As so many responses have said, our stadium sits in a great position. Yes, it’s old and needs updating, but that can be done in a piecemeal and sympathetic fashion. Would hazard a guess that many supporters of other clubs enjoy their day out at Portman Road in a proper, historic footballing place. Too many lovely old stadiums lost down the years imho.

Another stadium post on 14:25 - Oct 1 with 3306 views | Marshalls_Mullet | No. I cant see it being viable. Stadiums cost so much to build these days. We would be far better off expanding the capacity of the current ground. Two of the stands are only 25 years old.

Am I correct in thinking we still don't own the land underneath the stadium, so we couldn't sell it for redevelopment either, which is generally how these get funded.
