The Schofield island show 23:44 - Oct 1 with 3206 views | The_Romford_Blue | Not sure why but intrigue got me to watch it. Thoughts? I thought some of it was blatantly obvious for the sympathy vote (the talk about his dad, the ‘everything was in place’ suicide suggestion, etc. But then there was the occasional glimmer of human empathy towards him. It surprised me as I really think he probably (on the basis of probability in my opinion) groomed that kid having met him so young. And yet here he is talking about the hate he received and seeing himself being hated and spoke about by everyone on twitter, news, chat shows etc and I couldn’t help but think that must be the loneliest awful feeling imaginable. Knowing the whole world despises you. He shouldn’t be given a tv career or anything going forward celebrity wise but I hope he’s left alone to live his life though without the press hounding him. He’s been cancelled, rightly so. But it’s time to move on. This show should be the end of it. Am I nuts?

I have no idea what's gone on but I certainly don't despise him. Edit...the only thing I can't believe is that he's come back for more, the cult of celebrity must be addictive. Not necessarily just the cult of celebrity being addictive - being a TV presenter is all he's done. If he can't do that anymore then I imagine he wonders what his purpose is. Does he have any other skills? He's 62 and no doubt wealthy enough that he can retire, but then a lot of people find they don't know what to do with themselves when they retire. At least people coming up to retirement know it's coming, he's just been cancelled overnight so I guess in that situation it must be difficult (and I'm sure, in some cases, suddenly having no purpose could make you suicidal). In answer to Rommers: no you're not mad, you just have empathy!

The Schofield island show on 09:15 - Oct 2 with 2272 views | itfcjoe | He doesn't want to be left alone though, he wants to be famous again. He was by lots of accounts an arsehole to work with, and his 'unwise but not illegal' line was very 'unwise'. I don't give him much thought, but the option to live a quiet life away from the public gaze is available to him, but he feels wronged when it's hard to see why. Marina Hyde was very good on him on this weeks Rest Is Entertainment podcast

The Schofield island show on 10:34 - Oct 2 with 2062 views | _clive_baker_ | The reaction you had is likely exactly the purpose of the show, exactly his intent and probably why he would've been advised by his PR people to do it. Not saying its wrong or unreasonable, but I dare say it was all designed to build sympathy and find some favour among the general population, highlighting his vulnerability both in a very overt way 'marooned' on an island with only his thoughts, but also emotionally and through his opportunity to tell his side of the story without riposte. Personally I was privy to a lot of what was going on way before it was common knowledge by virtue of Matthew McGreavy being very close family friends of my cousin and his parents of my Auntie & Uncle. Its been going on years, I alluded to it on here literally years ago, but its unwise to say too much publicly. As a rule I don't really like trial by public opinion although I find his behaviour completely inappropriate. I'd say the best thing he could do is lie low and slip off into a quiet retirement but as Flashers says its not for anyone to second guess what impact it all might've had on his mental state.

Ah, ok, both are still 'performing' in some way, in front of an audience of the public. If he's cancelled from TV presenting I think it's fair to say he'll be cancelled from performing in musicals.

He's at retirement age now, so maybe should do so rather than trying to like him again when it isn't going to happen? He hasn't been harshly treated, he's been found out and people have made their moral judgements - a monologue on an island with no pushback isn't going to turn him back into what he was publicly before all this it's done.

Gordon carried that man for years and his reward was to be binned off as soon as Schofield got into something else. No recognition, no thank you, no nothing. Poor Gordon. As for Schofield, at 62 he should enjoy his retirement rather than trying to prolong up a washed up career. He was no doubt handsomely paid to make that programme and will have had the opportunity to squirrel away plenty of dough over his career. His net worth is estimated at £9m. If he’s feeling hard done by, tough. My sympathies lie with Gordon T Gopher. The real star. [Post edited 2 Oct 13:25]

The Schofield island show on 14:57 - Oct 2 with 1063 views | J2BLUE | I've watched the first episode. I do think it will have the desired effect for him. It's basically a tick box of what he needs to undo the damage. It sounds like he's going to heavily hint that he knows a lot about other TV people as well. The main thing I took from it was how much his family seem to be on his side.
