....bubble machines. FFS.

Personalised goal celebrations (Maddison, Palmer etc).

Crossing your arms and shouting "Irons" (You'd think they, of all people, would know rhyming slang).

Sussex-by-the-Sea.

Etc, etc.

Haven't West Ham been using the bubble machine for years?

And been known as the Irons since the nineteenth century?

"Madders" is a weapon of the highest order. The one player I want to see absolutely clattered at PR.

yes on both counts...I was wondering of the OP was being doubly ironic or something, and was going to do a big hah woosh, but I guess not.

That “Errrling…..” call and response thing the city announcer does is bloody terrible.

I think the anti glazer scarves regardless of colours is still king of this hill though.

Yesterday's half time promotion for West Ham and Peppa pig merchandise crossover did make me realise the Premier League is a completely different beast.

....a result of Premier League naffness, it wasn't around prior to the PL.

And I also don't ever remember seeing middle aged, overweight, bald man proudly crossing their arms across their bellies and shouting "Irons" in the 1980's.

So, as I say, Premier League naffness.

Agree but it was pretty wholesome in the end.

Arguably better than our efforts of:
- the quiz the other day between fans who've never seen us play before
- the cheerleading done to a slow marching band a few years ago

I know that was then, but it could be again..

All of the ‘naffness’ is simply there to appeal to kids - yes some of it is quite cringy but it’s not there to be taken seriously.

I hate being fair to Brighton as I have to endure their fans living close by but…they have played and sung Sussex By The Sea for donkey’s years. It was definitely doing the rounds on the terraces in the early 90s.

But you’re right, I love being in the Prem but I do hate certain aspects. Half and half scarfs on sale at every game with knock-off badges, kids holding up cardboard banners pleading for player’s shirts, soulless stadiums full of plastic fans where the pre-match entertainment seems more important than the football..and Peppa Pig turning out to be a West Ham ultra.

Half and half stuff has been around for years - I remember in the 80s there were bobble hats with two clubs badges on them. The scarves are there just as a souvenir of the occasion.

Christ, some bed wetters here.

Just let people enjoy things, whether it's crossing their arms or having a bubble machine.

Literally the most innocuous things going. Give me strength.

they had a bubble machine at Upton Park in the championship though....

And google says the Irons is in relation to their association with the Thames Ironworks and Shipbuilding Company, whose workers formed Thames Ironworks F.C. West Ham United F.C.
